Boro thread

I thought they expected us to chase the ball immediately and they looked completely lost about what to do when we didn't. I thought that was because they thought that was a 100% certainty and had put in no thought about what to do if we didn't.
Ah yes I agree. I thought you meant putting his foot on the ball and waiting, which I think was planned. It’s just they hoped we would then be “baited” into rushing in
They'll not have been paying much attention, like we wouldn't to specific opposition players. There is also a serious amount of hype and hope around him from our fans. I personally think it's justified but reality will be somewhere in the middle.

He wasn't involved a great deal before his goal, in fairness. I'm convinced he was trying to score though, because he didn't really turn around to see if anyone had tapped it in. He was going for goal.

What they should have been paying attention to is the way he handled the game physically as well. He didn't look out of place among players with far more experience than him.

1-0 (Rigg, 24')
I thought the pre game stuff on Sky was silly tbh.

They then talked about him all game, commenting on lack of touches (but didn’t contextualise this with touches of our other players)

Then when he scored he was nailed on MOTM, even though we had better performers.

They set up the narrative and wanted to fulfil it

I've not seen the pre-game stuff but I can imagine what it was like. I don't want the lad to be overhyped and expectations be lumped on him unnecessarily.

That said he does appear to be thriving on it, so what do I know?

I don’t think it fazes him that’s a good point. And he clearly has his head screwed on with good parental support.

I suspect I’m a bit old fashioned I’m this. I just find interviewing people who are legally children a bit weird. After a game I get, but features beforehand I don’t like. I get he needs to learn it if he’s going to be a famous footballer, but also while he’s so young, let him cook on the training pitch and football field. Outside of that, he’s a 17 year old child

Still maintain that i've never seen this wonderkid Hackney have one good game. Good to see Jones perform at his usual level against us for once. Usually he game raises like crazy.
Thought Hackney was class at doing fuck all personally.

Still creased at them hanging onto the ball not moving 15 seconds in. Couldn't believe how amateur it was to give away your entire game plan that quickly.

Agree, he needs protecting. I'm sure all the 'kids' on the books and indeed 'adults' will receive media training.

It's the strangest start to a game I've seen, well in a long time that is.

It's just a way of putting a number on how many good chances a team creates. It's not everything, but it sometimes tells you more about a performance than the result.
The only stat that matters is …….
And even if you do have high xg or whatever it is -if you don’t score and pick up points confidence drains and so will the XG ..
Our confidence stat measurement must be pretty high this morning !

I watched them lose 1-0 at Derby a couple of weeks ago and they absolutely battered Derby, had loads of chances. That's the type of game that they will usually win. Nothing like yesterday, where we basically kept them at arms length once we had the lead.

I think in most games they will be on top and create plenty.
Individual errors have cost us. If Jones hadn't have attempted that back pass to Dieng against Derby I doubt they would have scored against us and we probably would have the game.

We need to score first in a game really because we have no idea how to break down teams who play with a low block and Carrick doesn't seem to know how to address it. Yesterday's game was evidence of that.

They were embarrassing
Their approach the last five minutes was to pass right to left and repeat, really odd, stinks of a bloke too arrogant and full of himself to put balls in the box, pressure our keeper play on nerves, just basically create havoc he’ll of been worried about how it ‘looks’
The narrative ‘im Michael Carrick I change for nobody I play game the right way’
De bris yesterday put the ego out the door played a way to win the specific game carrick chose to make himself look good
The media spin on him will be ‘philosophy’ it’s plain arrogance for me

Exactly this. Game plan totally f**ked within 15 seconds of the game starting.

A big Well Done to RLB and co for doing their homework on Boro's plan.. and totally ruining it for them 😃

I never get why Boro fans rate themselves so highly. Out of their "best players" I never really see any linked with moves. My mate raving about Hackney he's 💩 his response "he's better driving forward with space".

But we were poor.😂 the fact boro didn't do anything we weren't willing to let them do is because we parked the bus 😂
Also how many of our players are coveted. Just don't get their logic. Maybe from Carrick. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Aye looks like de Bris has had a look at the mutants game and concluded that they like to draw teams in and hit them on the break, it started from the off and the lads had been told halfway line and no further hence that nonsense at the start, in the second half Mundle was away and stopped at the halfway line, The bearded Geordie was always going to moan about possession but at the end of the match the only stat that counts is the goals scored. They will not light up the league this year on that performance and Carrick will be down the road to the job center. HTL
If they were as good as they all make out they'd find a way. Fact is they're actually 💩. They don't want to control the ball because they're 💩 like you say they want to sit deep and hit on the counter. Happens to us too. It's how to deal with it. Usually let them have the ball because they don't know what to do with it. Boro mate saying we are rubbish. Plymouth was a freak. Fact of he matter is 5 clean sheets from 6. Joint top scorers with 13. Yeah we're rubbish 😂 not saying we'll win the league, but top 6 is realistically on. And we haven't seen much of Isodor, Samed or Aleksic yet.

for sone reason they think they’re all highly intellectual. Read FMTTM…it’s all current affairs!

It's usually wasteful but with how little you were creating in the 2nd half, I think you should have tried a few long range shots. It was a nervy watch but in reality Patterson had a very easy game.
