Tom Cannon bid in - now signed for Sheff U.

Said this on one of the threads last week that wouldn't be surprised if we were in for him, as Leicester were looking to bring more forwards in and he basically be surplus to requirements.

Cannon is a very good championship forward, he will score goals....club has the money now, go and get him.

It's not just goals scored. George Hirst at Ipswich only got 7 in 26 last season but was terrific in terms of hold up play and brought others into the game really well. That's why Broadhead and Chaplin got 13 goals each, Hutchinson got 10 and Burns got 6. Well, maybe not with Hutchinson, once he got going, was as good as more or less anyone in the division.

People in the game really rate Cannon, he is still young, he has everything you need in a forward, Sunderland have been crying out for a player like him for a long time...this could light the fuse to really have a promotion push.

Potentially, he could be a very, very good signing. As mentioned, he's now an Irish internaitional.

Why are people so excited about him?

Genuine question. Leicester blew everyone away last year and he scored 2 in 13.

Small purple patch at Preston which is probably no more then Mayenda is on track to do. 5 million plus seems a lot

Joined in January and started 20 games scoring 8 times. Plenty of games there. According to wiki

Not sure about his injury record

If we keep attacking like we do I’d expect Mayenda will get 8 in 20 at least this season. Combined with an injured and not prolific season last year not sure where the 5 million is coming from

Cannon in with Mendy and Isidor would be pretty decent in fairness. Hopefully we get a proper LW in too.

People keep banging on they want a striker with championship experience and scores goals in the championship.

Well, we've bid for one.
Don't we have a LW who got MOM at the weekend?

2 in 13 was mostly off the bench. The one doubt is his injury last season.

His loan at Preston overlapped with Liam Delap's. Delap scored 1 in 15 when Cannon got 8 in 20.

Vardy played with an injury in the first match of the season and Cannon still didn’t get on.
Would this be the same Jamie Vardy who at the age that Tom Cannon is now, was a 1 in 3 striker for Stocksbridge Park Steels of National Premier League Division One? Every transfer is risky but £5-7m for a 21 year old 1 in 3 Championship striker seems less of a risk than many we’ve tried over the years.
