Boro thread

Man United. Not even joking
I Spoke to a lad from Bradford on Holiday, he supported Man Utd. Asked him why? He supported Man U because he didnt have a club in Bradford to follow. He said all his family had followed Bradford Park Avenue.
As the league club was now defuct he wasnt going to follow Bradford City or any other Yorkshire club. So thats why he supported Man U.
So there is that reason for some, not sure about some of the young uns supporting them though.

No fucker lives there man!

I know that Northumberland is the least populated county in England (measured by people per square mile or whatever) but I’m pretty sure that when I’ve driven through Cramlington, Blyth,Ashington, Hexham, Morpeth et al, there were some people around. Otterburn always looks a bit deserted so maybe they commute.

Mags catchment area is unrivalled in football. No pro clubs north till Edinburgh, no clubs west till Carlisle, big population directly to the east and even to the south they are more or less equidistant to Sunderland to most conurbations within much better transport links in a lot of cases. They is only really us to the south east.
We have a decent catchment area except for that git big puddle directly to our east.
Boro lose out because they have us and Pools to the North and a national park to the south. We have umpteen pit towns south of us however except for coastal towns Boros south pretty much stops at Nunthorpe
They even voted their nearest team out of the league, because they saw little old Gateshead as a threat to their attendances.

It's a bit of void I think West Yorkshire outside of Bradford Leeds and maybe Huddersfield

They don't extend beyond their own boundaries like say East Durham does to Sunderland

Good mate is a big Oldham fan who clings onto a rivalry with Huddersfield as he's a proper old timer

Then I know people who like their rugby mostly, of both codes

Some of the West Yorkshire types think Barnsley, Rochdale, Burnley are rivals as they're not far

Probably why some stray to Man United as the football identies aren't so clear cut

clubs choose you , you don't choose your club :)

i got taken to SJP a few times as a bairn and watched some football matches  . I went to Roker first time when I was ten and between the beach , the pier , the shipyards, the green of the turf and the red and white corner flags,I was pulled in before the lads had even run out :)
