Jack Clarke

The thing is on the other hand, without agents you'd get some players massively underselling themselves.

The key is finding an agent who genuinely has the players best interest at heart
You do realise that Heart gets paid if Clark signs a now contract with us don’t you?

This means he does not have a vested interest in manipulating a move away from the SOL for Clark, only on getting him a new deal, regardless of which club that is with.

Nowhere near as much.

At the end of the day if you have good players, other teams further up the food chain become interested in them. While I would be gutted to lose such a talent if he does go, this is football unless you’re Man City or Real Madrid. This sort of thing happening is a hell of a lot better than when we had a load of shit older players on massive money that nobody wanted and drained the club dry.

Apart from the comparatively massive fee he’d command from Ipswich for negotiating a transfer?

Agents always make more money by facilitating transfers rather than new deals

Ipswich seem to be going in with low offers for everyone. They wanted Odobert from Burnley for 15m and he went to Spurs for 30m. I think they tried to get O'Shea from Burnley for some ridiculously low fee as well. His value is going to go down the nearer it gets to his contract running out but he is worth more to Sunderland if he helps them get promotion, and it would probably cost more to replace him like for like. If you do get promotion he might decide to sign a new contract.

Its all a bit of a mess by all accounts. So....

A contract has been verbally agreed, but not actually signed yet. Harte is advising JC to hang fire until we see what happens at the end of the window.

Jack is still more than happy here, he loves being at SAFC and would never force a move, but also wants to play in the PL and ideally would love it be with us.

I'd mentioned before that we'd turned down bids from Ipswich earlier in the summer, and they've come back with another (slightly) higher offer, but J isnt interested in going there.

The Leeds stuff was rubbish.

This from his bird mate, was there any indication of how confident in him staying here or no?

Why can't he say "do I want to go to Ipswich no , do I want to go to Southampton no . Do I want sunderland pay me yes .

It depends if we're making him an offer that makes him feel wanted doesn't it?

By all accounts he wasn't fussed on Burnley last year, but would have gone if the club accepted their offer. It sounds to me like he wants to know that he's an important here. If the club aren't showing how important he is in terms of their contract offer, then he may feel that he might as well go elsewhere and get a better contract.

Time is on Jack's side. No disrespect to Ipswich but chances are they will be one of the teams liable to get relagated. If we do get promoted, the sky could be the limit. For Clarke and SAFC.The team is at last getting some value onto these players, better results and performances will hopefully increase.Don't get promoted, give good performances ,see where we are in January ? Clarke seems happy,he's had the uncertainty of big clubs. He can only improve with SAFC !

He knows how important he is though. We tweet about him and celebrate him loads. He's clearly our best player and everybody knows it

Yep, that and not making any attempt to keep us in the Championship in 2017/8.

It set us back years
Peculiar time in the club's history like.

Moyes takes a lot of the blame, but when he says he didn't do his due diligence before taking the job, I'm inclined to believe him.

There were too many big contracts already crippling the club.
