Jack Clarke

Thats not comparable at all. They didn't turn down huge bids to keep him, he only had about 5 months in the championship and then was injured.

He was sold as soon as he got into the last 12 months and that was also the highest his value had ever been. This summer is the highest Clarke will ever be at Sunderland if he doesn't sign a new deal
Of course it’s comparable. You’re suggesting they’re panicking. They won’t at all. They’ll either get the fee they want now or they’ll sell next year. It’s that simple.

I agree. Not convinced we'd see close to all of it reinvested either at this point
Nee chance.

Be lucky to see half invested back into the squad.

Itll just cause a meltdown when he goes because we wont have time to reinvest properly, chances of promotion are literally halfed and the fans will be rightly frustrated once again.

"sell Clarke the replacement is Mundle"

Just like Lihadji was the Diallo replacement
Just like Rusyn was Clarkes replacement

You don't know that Mundle is objectively the replacement for Clarke.
We have 3 players who all want to play in Clarkes position and that is Mundle, Rusyn and Watson. I’ll confidently predict that if Clarke is sold we won’t buy a left winger, they will use the money to strengthen in other areas.

They'd have to sign a replacement. The obvious one was Liam Millar but he's now elsewhere.
Who's also pretty average and the team would be going backwards. We'd need to spend the money across 2 or 3 players but it wouldn't happen. If you buy 8m players they want 8m players wages that we won't pay

If he won’t sign a contract there will be a price though, reports suggest thats around £25m. I’d love them to just say not for sale regardless of contract, but we know that won’t happen

Of course. They can't say he's not for sale. The whole basis of our plan has to be based on us not standing in the way of players who wish to move on if they believe that the move would facilitate a progression in their career. Players with massive talent and self belief wouldn't come here if we held players against their wishes.

Reactions: Gaz
Leeds have just got £40m for Rutter. A forward who scored 6 goals in 57 appearances for Leeds.

If Sunderland accepted £25m for Clarke it would be a disgrace, and it would not bode very well at all for the future prospects of building a successful team.
Exactly this. People say rutter isn’t a striker, Clarke isn’t a striker and outstrips his numbers

And none of those are good enough to impact games, as much as Clarke does from the left wing.

What do you expect to happen? We want be able to replace one of the best players in the league, especially with the wage restraints we have in place.

We'd look to invest elsewhere like a other striker and bank about 40% of the fee for running costs no doubt
