Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

It's 4million euros they want not pounds, so roughly £3.4m. The 1million euros we've offered equates to about £850k.
I said earlier 3 million euros (2.6 million pounds) would surely land him, possibly less. He's the man we've identified & i don't think that's a ridiculous price even given his age so I can't understand why we don't just get it done. We've surely left it too late to move on to another target anyway.
I think it’s more to do with the fact they have doubled their asking price and it’s seen as a piss take

They get themselves into these situations as they offer stupid amounts and then hang around like a bad smell when they've been told no.

Sounds like they first approached Caen in June. It's still going on.

They are so indecisive it's unbelievable.

Other clubs get managers and players signed in hours, we work in a timescale of several months.

What do Caen want? They are the selling club. We are either willing to pay it or we arnt, this prevaricating around deals is amateurish.
They have a value we have a value, pay it if it matches, if not move on

I get that but sitting there with no senior striker at the close of the window because we were too proud to be taken the piss out of is no good to us. They're not going to let him go for the original agreed deal so we either tell them where to stick it & move on or haggle again over the price, either way it should have been done weeks ago.

It always goes to the final day as they try to create a bidding frenzy

Exactly or try to meet in the middle, it's not rocket science. We've had nearly 4 windows of "it's a difficult market, strikers are hard to come by" whilst our rivals are bringing in 2 or 3 a window. Our upcoming oppents have arguably the most batshit crazy owner in the league yet they've managed to sign Jamal Lowe & Ugbo this window, Lowe was even in for pre season (imagine that). Either would instantly improve us.

Personally I reckon the issue is that we tried to get him the same way we got Batth, technically a free transfer from the club and we just buy out the contract. Now the new lot have come in and are demanding an actual transfer fee and we are reluctant to do it because of his age.
That would at least make some sense, in that they have a policy for people over a certain age and they don’t want to break from it.

Not that I agree with that stance, but at least it’s an explanation. They’re risking cutting their nose off to spite their face if they won’t tweak the model slightly to get the person they think can score the goals to get us promoted.

Because he's still trying to force his departure and maybe they'll accept some offer before the window closes.
Hopefully a like for like replacement for Caen.

The temptation to bring Mbaye Niang back to Stade Malherbe Caen, his training club, exists. There are contacts between the different parties. At 29, Niang is free. The Senegalese international has other requests after a last season with 14 goals. #Mercato

Sounds good, also sounds they are doing things cheap as well. They could make a decent million or two and bring a like for like on sale or maybe less wages.

So ... still no further foward ...hes still training alone ... has he played in any preseason games?

We're offering 800k and Caen want €5m
Hes 30 and never played outside of France?

Best case scenario...if we signed him today he might not be ready and upto speed for at least 2-6 weeks... maybe longer
