Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Imagine if you went to the pub and they went ‘we’re under new ownership and the price of a pint has gone up from 2 quid to 3.’ You’d either cough up the extra quid, or you’d f*** off to a different pub.

You wouldn’t pop two quid down and stand there like a twat for a month waiting for a pint to appear.
Equally if you went to buy a pair of jeans because they were on offer and when You went to the till they added an extra 20 quid because the shop had changed hands you might buy a different pair of jeans.

You can’t defend the club on this one though, I try as much as I can to defend them but if they have identified 1 target you need to get him, so they’re backed into a corner here, they should have had multiple targets just in case they couldn’t get the Mendy deal over the line, or they will be in the position they’re in now where they need to enter the market again late in the day and panic sign someone.

😂😂 that’s the best way I’ve seen it explained. You would t then cry but but I was mates with the previous owner we had a nod and a wink in place.

Quite simply if Speakman did not have options B, C and D researched and prepared then he has failed to do his job. Again.

This. On top of all Speakman’s guff about meticulously planned, data driven targets all at least one window ahead. More bollocks

I do defend “the model” and I am on board with signing young players with high ceilings and good sell on values and not overpaying for players, it is literally the way to run a sustainable club so I’m not against it.

What I am against is the complete lack of preparation with this one, you can’t just go for 1 player and not have plan B or C. If we had 3 players in mind and we said we won’t pay more than X for A, more than Y for B and more than Z for C, then I’d be on board with that. But you simply can’t identify 1 player and then try and play hardball when we are in the position we are in. This whole striker pursuit has been nothing short of a piss take.

I’m going to stick my neck on the line here and say Speakman is actually good at his job, but his job is academy manager and youth development, NOT a director of football. If the club had Speakman signing the youth players and then an experienced DoF signing ready made players, I’d be happy as a pig in shit, but Speakman is quite simply out of his depth in this role as he only knows youth football and players with potential.

Or like if you were going to buy a pink slice then realised someone was giving them away for free.🤔

Tbh, Mayenda coming back and replacing Burstow should make us stronger….but it’s likely to be marginal isn’t it?

I have been defending them all summer because I was sure they wouldn’t do this again. I am happy with Mendy IF we get him in, but I’m possibly giving them faith they don’t deserve.

Whilst giving anyone who dare say this all of 3 days ago abuse.

Absolutely fine now you’ve realised it though, anyone who could see it prior to you 3 days ago was a negative twat, a bedwetter, that clearly deserved nothing but abuse and told as much, oh and they should stop posting for good measure.

Now it’s finally clicked with you, it’s fair game for you to say it.

You say that but look at the young'ns we bought last summer. Barely any of them suitable.

I actually dont believe the model is about young recruitment. Its about getting players for as cheap as possible. Thats the only constant part of the model.

Well said.👏👏

It’s about sell-on fees in the future, nothing else. Why would he bring that keeper in from Stoke on a free - to be third choice when we have more than enough in the academy? In the hope we can flog him to League One for £100k or so in January or next summer.

Barely any of them are suitable to be playing week in week out at this level at this stage in their career I agree. But I think most people will agree that the vast majority of them have good potential. Which comes back to my previous point of Speakman knowing players with potential but not being able to identify and get the deals done for ready made players which is what we are desperately crying out for.

Please don’t think this is me defending them either because I’m not, Speakman absolutely is not fit for the job he’s in and is out of his depth, but the job he’s used to (not his role here) I do think he is quite good at.
