Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

I’m by no means happy with the current striker situation we have brought in too many unproven players that have simply failed or are just not ready for this level. We have obviously identified this lad to be the one that breaks that chain and it’s not gone according to plan.

On the flip side we aren’t getting rid of our better players and some have even extended their contracts. I’m so torn at the moment regarding how the club is run. Off the field we were a disaster last season but this off season they have started to put that right with commercial, stadium improvements etc.

I know how massive we are and we should expect better all the time until we are winning things but at the same time we are trying to come back from the brink and do that in a sustainable way that ensures the future of the club. I’ve come to the conclusion that I will just let them get on with it and what will be will be. Those talking relegation etc are nuts.

We can but hope we do not flirt with relegation.

Relegation unfortunately was our form for the 2nd half of last season.

It's good we have not lost Clarke or any of of better players (yet) but neither have we brought in anyone of consequence that could improve the team.

So I not looking forward to the new season atm... its going to be tough.

It's not just those two XIs though.

Noukeu
Johnson Triantis Hjelde Anderson
Ba Matete Embleton
Jewi Hemir Watson

That's three XIs we can put out without properly dipping into the u21s, obviously Embo is about to leave but we've got a big first team squad with strength in depth. We could get by and be fine if we only sign one more player, as long as that one player is a goalscoring striker.
None of those listed are good enough, with the exception of Ba. What you're highlighting is we've a bloated squad with not a lot of quality. Realistically, we want to be signing players better than our first XI and fleshing out the squad that way but that's tricky without a major sale or two.

Don’t necessarily disagree but after hearing (directly from Speakman himself) that they were focused on succession plans (identifying future players and managers/coaches) which would see us planning well and preserving continuity I’ve been really disappointed with what felt like from the outside a real unstructured approach to managerial appointments
Planning is as easy as hell…..probably did what he says…..then you’ve got to get those coaches/players to agree .
Doesn’t mean you get the person you want….He’s a fkn idiot.

Seems a bit odd though doesn't it, unless Bradford want him.

Surely not. He offered absolutely nothing.

I know he's still young, but he struggled to control the ball and found it difficult to run with it.
He’s not been taken to Chelsea’s pre season tour (unsurprisingly) so will just be watching our lads play. Still good friends with a fair few of them.

Considering I’ve seen Jon Stead, James Vaughan, Jerome Sinclair, Jozy Altidore, Danny Graham, all play for us, I can comfortably say Mason Burstow is the worst striker I have ever seen pull on a Sunderland shirt.

If they sign him on a permanent they can fuck off.
