Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

We all want a striker but do you think 3 million plus for 30 year old Mendy is the right approach?
If it's not too much plus then yes, I think it would be worth it. We need an experienced proven scoring number 9. They don't come cheap - if they did we'd have one by now. Lots of strikers play well into their mid 30s.
It doesn't particularly matter that a small number of players have little resale in the wider scheme things ... we've plenty of young players he'll help develop and they will do the 'increase in value' thing.

And then it's often wise to put the question the other way round. Is it wise not to fork out that bit more for him, given the clock ticketh.

If we fail to land a proven striker this window serious questions need to be asked and addressed with speakman. The usual we’ve got strikers and we’ve tried and we’re close shouldn’t wash come September if nobody comes in

If he fires us into the PL at 32 year old, he may never play another game again and we will go and spend 25 million on a better striker because we will have well over 150 million to spend, it makes sense to me.

Agreed, this fella scoring 20+ for the last 3 seasons suggests, he knows where the goal is. At 30, he's got plenty of experience to pass on to the younger strikers too which is another plus.

We're obviously financially limited as to who we can bring in, we all want a 23 Yr old who's been banging them in at top level, who can progress into a superstar, but it ain't going to happen under this ownership unfortunately. They simply don't have the resources or bottle.

Equally that amount in someone 23 and they grow and develop further. Don’t mind signing older players but he’s an older gamble. Don’t mind him at the right price but fully supportive of the club comparing options which is what they seem to be doing with Ugbo and probably others we don’t know about.

He was talking about the defence. Fifth lowest number of goals conceeded last season, would suggest the defence is not the problem.
Yup. We needed a proper head coach and a striker who can lead the front line and score some goals.

We don’t play with a CDM and we aren’t going to either. There’s no chance we’re chucking another midfielder into a team that has Ekwah, Rigg, Neil, Jobe, Browne, Ba, Aouchiche unless we sell one.
