I think we’re after Ugbo and Mendy. I doubt either will cost more than 2m up front and are very different in style. They’d compliment each other in a two and offer very different options as lone centre forwards.
Perhaps but was reported as being significantly higher than other offers.

Given our new French coach who would have likely directed the club to him we should have got the deal over the line before the takeover business started.
A week before the season starts and it looks like we are no nearer signing a CF than the last day of the season.

It’s similar to when they wanted Will Still. Interviewed he wasn’t convinced from what he was told, we delayed and lost him. If you want someone and he is your absolute No1 choice we should have made sure the deal was done long before Lens. Replicate that now with the utter embarrassment that surrounds us trying to bring a CF to the club, you can’t make this up. It is total and utter incompetence.

He’s their players; we can’t force them to sell him.

that is unless it's just trying to save a few quid and get players on the cheap which is more than likely the issue.

it’s that selling clubs know the price is only likely to go up the closer we get to the window closing through either desperation or other bids coming in.
Unless a club desperately needs the cash/wants rid of the player they don’t tend to sell until they have to.
The window should close the day before the season starts.

We could have played 2 or maybe even 3 games before the window shuts and it's imperative we get off to a good start to get the monkey off our back from last season. Last thing we need is those same problems coming back to haunt us and fear setting in.
Not having at least one proven striker in before the first game of the season would be gross incompetence and indefensible.
i understand that but this has dragged on for ages and it doesn't do us any good. surely they have options elsewhere? it's a bit sackless to pin all hopes on one option.
i've just read the difference in valuations.
tbh, i take little notice of anything during the close season regarding rumours of who we're after until they sign. just looking forward to getting back into it next week at cardiff.

So, assuming they asked for 5m as reported and we think the value for a player of his age is closer to 1m what would you prefer they do?
Cave in and pay over the odds? Move on to a target who they don’t think is as good?
You can’t just take players, there’s another club involved.
I'd prefer them to move on as the gap is too wide between valuations. Why the f#ck have we pissed around for over a month?
Offering 700k for their main striker who's scored over 20 goals for the past 3 seasons is nothing but insulting in the first place.
Move on find others strikers, but no wonder they're finding it hard if we're only putting bids in of around 1m....pretty f#cking pathetic if that's the case.

Yes we sadly are. People accuse you, myself and others of moaning and to some extent I get that. I am ffs sick of watching an owner who at the end of the day has never had any real business sense run the club that almost certainly will not bring promotion as per his 5 year plan. The reality is you need really good people around you and he is a novice.
Speakman should have gone re Beale’s appointment, he is arrogant, you can just see Will Still thinking, not sure about this! He has no track record to allow him to talk in a way that will rub people up the wrong way, when in reality he has failed in his job for 18 months, his comment about “plodding on” shows little regard for supporters who saw the club through in the towel in Jan.
We will sign a CF it won’t be who they originally wanted. The owner doesn’t seem to want to spend maybe £15m on three or four good level Championship players right now, you wonder if he is first waiting to sell Clarke or a Hume etc and then spend that fee on a better quality of player. It’s a high risk strategy as even if we did get a buyer for Clarke or whoever for the fee we want it could be right at the death of the window with no time to bring those players in.

I don’t think I’d be wanting to pay more than 2m for Mendy. If they think they can get him for that if they wait a few weeks that’s surely the best approach?
Looks like we may have moved on to Ugbo now and the suggestion is that SAFC have gotten frustrated.
