Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Why do uninformed people criticise Speakman? We have had two other Directors of Football who got almost virtually no criticism.

Lee Congleton wasted tens of millions of the club’s money. For example bought Jack Rodwell for 12 million on a 5 year contract on huge wages. Robert Di Fanta also wasted tens of millions - look up his recruitment gems! Almost received no abuse from fans yet raped the club.

Speakman takes us from a very old, talentless squad with no asset value. He spends almost nothing and now we have emerging crop of young payers like Clarke, Ballard, Cirkin, Ekwah, Alese, Hume, and retained young talent like Patto, Rigg, Neil who are worth approx 100 million. He has also brought in people on loan likes Amad, Broadhead, Simms who the club couldn’t get over the line as permanent deals.

And yet he is criticised by people like you - with snide comments like he is an arrogant know-all and you’ve probably never met him. But yeah you just buy the negative garbage of people who know nothing about football and nothing about what is going on in the club - mostly people who have achieved nothing in life who feel more secure when they criticise people who have. Start thinking for yourself based on facts and not the opinion of fools!
Those examples you gave crippled the club back to league 1 with the help of other idiots (i know people who dealt with them daily) and i can see some similarities with our recruitment since we got promoted.

The problem with YOU is that early doors you were giving it billy big bollocks about how good KS (clearly you) is doing and trying to wind fans up with smug remarks. Then when it takes a sour turn and it comes back at you you dont like it and dont want to talk about it(arrogance). Signing a bunch of raggy dolls last pre season. Sacking a proper manager and replacing with beale. The beale coaching statement. Its fuckin embarassing man. Its also the same point of view alot of ex pro's have and ex managers. From what i hear its also why new up and coming coaches keep knocking us back aswell.

Last season must have been humbling and a reality check. Me pointing out our shite strategy is nothing more than obvious facts and whilst yeah its my opinion and nothing more I f***ing stand by the fact that the shite recruitment strategy is what seen us spiralling downwards which nearly made your 100million pound 'success' decimated and you out of a job.

Football is too fast paced to focus solely on long term strategy.

So fuck the '100million' statement and focus on making sure the same amaturish mistakes dont happen again. From the squad we had end of 22/23 the 23/24 seasoj was an absolute shambles with decision making mate

Close but the new investors wanted to speak to Mendy to try and get him to stay. According to a Caen reporter yesterday Mendy is likely to join SAFC he wants to go so suppose the next week or so we should know
You brighten up the transfer rumours on here and on my Twitter feed cam. Keep it up lil budeeeee

Why is it taking so long to make a phone call?

yes the people saying we havent spent on a striker are lying..if they say we havent spent on a centre forward they are then telling the truth
A striker and a centre forward are the same thing man for fuck sake

Same as a centre half is a centre back. Winger is a wide midfielder.

When posters talk about spending money on a striker, they are talking about someone ready to step into the first team. Sunderland haven’t spent millions on that type of player for a while. Again though you know that but continue to stir the pot with semantics
Not likely to either honestly.

We will be looking for another RS type, a cheap unknown/unproven with the right attributes who will gain value.

Someone like Mendy for a couple of million who has a bit more experience is about as close as we will get.

Even “proven” in a very limited sense means a 5m+ fee in most cases and I doubt we will operate like that,

that’s not quite right is it?

Shearer was a CF, Phillips was a striker,

It's the same thing

Shearer and Phillips played the same position. As did Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe and so on; different playing styles of course. But the position of striker or centre forward is the same

Shearer and Phillips played for different teams mate.

If Coventry sign Asante their 3 strikers scored 40 league goals between them last season.

Our current 3 strikers scored 2 league goals between them.

Let that sink in.
Frightening. The owners and Speakman can have few complaints that a good proportion of our support aren’t happy.

We deserve way better.
...but none of our strikers have to live near Coventry. Who are the real winners?
Good point :-)

It does, and They spent plenty of that 40m last season too. Still hasn't stopped them spending agin this season. They've also made sure that they've strengthened their first team. Not just players for the bench.

What have our 2 billionaire twins and mega rich Uruguayan spent this summer?
They've spent fairly similar fees to what they've brought in. I'm sure if we sell Clarke and Neil we'll do the same as they have done. As it is I think we're better off trying to keep them and add smartly a couple of forwards.

I don't agree with that. A CF plays a more withdrawn role (to varying degrees) and gets involved in the build up play. A striker's primary position is in and around the box.

Ya pissing in the wind pal.

I wouldnt let it bother you.
That's because it's wrong.

From Wikipedia (there are loads of articles answering the question online also)

The role of a striker is rather different from that of a traditional centre-forward, although the terms centre-forward and striker are used interchangeably at times, as both play further up the field than other players, while tall, heavy and technical players, like , and , have qualities which are suited to both positions. Like the centre-forward, the traditional role of a striker is to score goals; strikers are therefore known for their ability to peel off defenders and to run into space via the blind side of the defender and to receive the ball in a good goalscoring position, as typified by and . They are typically fast players with good ball control and dribbling abilities. Shorter statured, more agile strikers like , , , , and have an advantage over taller defenders due to their short bursts of speed.
