Disney world Florida

Is that a common occurrence do you know?

One of the main reasons we chose that hotel was the boat
It was the second time I know of in 30 years of going. But I don’t pay any attention to the situation if I’m not actually there.
May is the end of their “dry” season so more likely at that time of year.
All the other boats around Magic kingdom and Epcot were running still. It was just the Disney Sprins ones that were off.

Yeah fair enough, hopefully will be alright.

Went to Coronado Springs last time so wanted to mix it up a bit

We flew out yesterday from Manchester to Melbourne. We had a 5 hour delay. Was a killer journey leaving home at 4am and arriving into the villa at 9pm last night their time.
Happy days TUI refunded us £1560 for the 5 hour delay. That’s half the price of the original flights back. As much as it was a pain in the arse at the time the 5hr delay seems worth it now.

Also found a little hack for anyone thinking of getting Express Pass for Universal/IoA. We paid for 1 night at Loews Royal Pacific Hotel for $500 and got Express pass for 2 full days (check in day and check out day). Didn’t even stay the night just used the room to freshen up a bit at tea time. Made the whole experience of Universal much better not having to worry about all the queues.

The premium universal hotels are well worth it, especially for a family, to get the front of line passes.
They are adding Sapphire Falls to the premium group when Epic universe opens and I presume the new hotel in the park will be as well.

I know this is the Florida thread, and I've been twice and it's great.

However, there is a world of difference between Florida and California. Florida is a bull bait from start to finish. California is very quiet and relaxed in comparison. It reminds me very much of Paris when we went in the late 00s with the kids, you could just happen across characters - we got Doug from Up and there wasn't a other soul there in California Adventure.

Worth thinking about if you're not tied to going to all the Florida parks and you can get a deal.

Aye last time we came we stayed at Portofino Bay which was amazing and great for the express pass for 2 weeks. However this time couldn’t justify the £11k they wanted for 10 days so just booked flights and a villa separately which worked out much cheaper. Actually preferred the pace of this holiday better with only doing parks in 2 day bursts rather than every day going park to park. Been playing golf today with the boy which was a nice change of pace.

Anyone got recommendations for villas around Disney? Still weighing up what to do, quotes are very pricey for us , my mam and dad and 3 kids at Disney for 10 days, cheapest so far been 19k with a meal plan 😳😂

Try booking this place

On travel republic. Free breakfast and afternoon snacks (inc drinks & alcohol!). You'll only need 1 meal per day.

Paris basically hide the characters these days. There's hardly any chance encounters.

The 5.30 kickback sounds good, especially for people with young kids who come back from the parks for that time anyway

Look for free dining deals. When are you looking to book for?

Id recommend avoiding Airbnb for villas. We’ve had two cancelled on us and apparently last minute a cancellations are common. We’ve ended up booking direct via a recommendation to a villa in Windsor Hills. Best reliable website seems to be Debbie’s villas. Bit pricey but margaritaville would have been my first choice due to proximity to restaurants etc but to get a villa with a pool it as well over 2k a week

This is where we are staying now:

It cost us $3,000 for 10 nights. Got 7 beds spread across 5 rooms. Very well presented house. Host has been absolutely spot on. Really good location about 25 mins to the Disney Parks and about 45 mins to Universal. 60 mins to Busch Gardens.

I’ve done hotels and house for Florida and have to say I prefer the House simply for the more relaxed pace and better evening environment. A hotel room can be very claustrophobic at the end of a hectic day at the parks.

Yeah we are staying at the Hard Rock for a week this year. Stayed there 6 years ago and it was well worth it for the Fast Pass. Gone for a Club room this time as well so we get breakfast plus free drinks and snacks at certain times of day.

Woahhhh!

question....do you really need to stay in the parks? We go loads and have never bothered with the park hotels..

We usually pay:

500-700 per person - flights and hotel with BA
300-700 for a car for 2 weeks - fluctuates depending on loads of factors
500ish per person for 2 week disney tickets
800ish per person if you want combo tickets for disney and universal

Then spending money is whatever you want to take. You can fine dine every day, or you can keep it cheap.

With that size group you could get flights for 400ish per person (watch for the BA sales) - then you could add a car for 300-700 - people carrier even for similar price. A Villa varies, but you could be looking at 1500-2000 on average for 10 nights.

You can save a fortune if you do it yourself and stay off park, it isn't hard to do so either.

whats the average commute to the parks? i think the attraction of being in a disney is probably clouded by staying at paris and its walkable to the hotels where non of the american ones are so if its 25 mins back to a disney hotel or 25 mins drive to a villa like you say is it worth it for a big group

Bonkers mate!

Average commute depends where you stay, it can be 15ish mins to upwards of 30-40 mins.

A people carrier would do you all, then you have no worry about travel (not much more price wise when you add a car to the BA booking). You then have parking which is $30ish per day for the parks. But could could use resort transfers if you wanted, they're free. Then you have no parking costs, but you do of course have to wait for pickups etc. You could do uber/lyft as well.

We always get a car tbh tho as we like to come and go. We never eat in the parks these days, we go elsewhere. Jump in the car, go eat, maybe back to hotel to freshen up then head back to the park, or a different one (parking is valid for them all)

Just done a quick search with BA, it's from London but it'll be similar from scotland I imagine (maybe a connection)

4 Bed villa (can get larger for not a lot more)
12 seater van (£983 - could get multiple cars if you prefer, from 200 each they were showing)

I know it is conveniant to be around the resort, but I'd never bother. Much prefer to have the option to go where we want and when. Theres a million and one places to eat.

Edit I just stuck 7 adults to get an idea of price for 7 people.

Cheers for that think I’m gonna have a look at pricing it that way 👍
