CC : Durham v Worcestershire

Said first thing this morning that pitch was an absolute embarrassment. I stand by that view.
First thing I said when I got in the ground this morning was why are we playing on the outfield. Far rather we back ourselves to win on a good pitch. Obviously deliberate when we decided to go without a spinner.

As far as the pitch goes we have obviously tried to produce a wicket similar to the Somerset game which was bowler friendly but got it wrong for this one. Add on top the over head conditions which helped swing which nade it even more difficult.

Cricket, bloody hell.

Vic Demain on comms said that the club told him that the Somerset pitch was the ‘blueprint’ and so he’s prepared a deck that was identical to that one (going off his own analysis and metrics). Unfortunately, the conditions have meant that it’s done a lot more than that one did and so we’ve got a game which has essentially turned into a lottery. There lies my main complaint about it - we’re a far better team than Worcestershire even when they’re at full strength, we’ve got essentially a Test bowling attack, evidenced in how we performed, but we’re playing against a second string attack. For me, it’s ludicrous that we’d prepare a pitch which gives them a sniff.

Produce a flat pitch and back yourself to grind the opposition down over four days when you are considerably better in terms of talent and ability.

We’re 111 ahead with 7 wickets remaining, we’re certain to lose atleast one of those early on tomorrow and so you hand the impetus right back to the opposition.

We’ve got Ackermann, Bedingham, Stokes, Robinson and De Leede to come tomorrow, plus Raine who can all bat, can all score quickly and can all put on a good score irrespective of how much it’s doing so I’m still confident of getting over the line. BUT, Worcestershire will be buzzing in the morning and will feel they’re right in it if they dismiss us for less than 200. We’ve got a long long way to go before we can feel supremely confident of a win, especially when this pitch is likely to flatten out once the grass has died off and it’s had another going over from the heavy roller.

I had planned on going down to Tuesday and Wednesday, I can’t imagine there’ll be any cricket left by then.

I agree with what you say but i said this morning they would produce a sporty wicket as it worked against Somerset.
Basically like most counties they just want to win and a draw against Worcestershire would be a bad result.

When I eventually got back home Mrs RT always asks out of politeness how things went even though she's no cricket fan by any stretch of the imagination. When I told her that 23 wickets had false and that (weather permitting) the game will probably be finished on the second day for the second successive home game she announced -
"Well the bosses will pleased cos the ground will be shut for two more days and they'll save money."

Perhaps this is the blueprint that Vic was on about?:D🤔

You can't trust this lad, he chose football over cricket 😳🤯

Yet again Cricket does not help itself. People like yourself looking forward to watching on Tuesday and Wednesday when it will probably be all over by Monday.

I am a few years away from retirement and would love to go away (and home) to watch Durham when I am retired but pitches like this don't really help.

Agreed. I sit with a couple from Berwick who book up for home games for 4 nights and they're getting short changed with these poor pitches.
