Regis le Bris - confirmed

Likes his sides to press and attack quickly on the break. I think the entertainment value will massively increase vs the end of last season. Let's give him a chance
"The aim is to overload the centre, control this area, not get dragged about by the opposition and their possession play, and just focus on maintaining a solid, compact structure that’s difficult to play through while leaving little space for creators to exploit between the lines in valuable, central areas.

Lorient have the second-highest PPDA in France’s top flight this term (16.22) — they don’t deploy a very aggressive press. The highest importance is not necessarily placed on regaining the ball as high as possible, though it would be nice if they were gifted something, they focus on ensuring they control the valuable central areas and remain difficult to play through with a disciplined position-oriented structure."

Teams giving us enough respect to sit deep would be a good place to get back to. First season under Mowbray it was a common problem, last season felt like everyone was smelling blood

We had quite a lot of teams who seemed to sit deep initially, then slowly realise that we offered little threat and became much more expansive as the game went on, usually to our detriment.

If Le Bris can convince teams to come out and then catch them out, then he could have some success.

The club are taking the wholesale piss out of us all. This is a disaster of an appointment which would have been the cheapest option.

He’s a no mark manager who got relegated this season gone. However, because the club have dragged this on for so long. The standards have dropped so much that a lot are just happy to accept anyone.

I’m not the one to kick off, but this is a hugely underwhelming appointment. He’s just a French Michael Beale.

f***ing state of this man

With the high press en vogue then it can work. I'm not sure how we'll fare against teams sitting deep mind - could be a snooze
Last season we tried to switch to being a team that dominates possession with "ball playing" CBs. I am guessing the thinking was that our first season back, clubs attacked us but post play off finish they might not be as willing to go at us. I think it was a mistake, not a lot of Championship teams are passive enough to sit deep, hence the nature of the league where everyone can beat everyone.

This might be a return to our previous approach, which I think does suit us better.

Nerd

I watched about 6 or 7 highlights from lorient games and theres 5 or 6 goals came from them pressing teams just outside their own box.
Yes this is a really interesting stat.

His team were very low for pressing actions but one of the highest for goals from high turnovers. So I suppose one could assume they don’t press much but when they do they did it very well and were clinical

This screams Pierre Ekwah chasing shadows on the edge of our 18 yard box.
