Greek Island Holiday Help

Just checked out the Jet2 Holidays site and a quick search found a nice spot in Nidri(?) well within our price range and the dates that are looking most likely. Short walk to the seafront and looks lovely.
If it means stansted and parking then we parked up in the long term car park and stayed the night before in the Radisson even though we didn’t fly until the next afternoon. It meant a pretty stress free journey, taking into account the shit show the M25 can be

Just to add I did a flotilla holiday our of Syvota and we visited 6 islands over 7 days including Ithaca, meggasinni and others I can remember. Some stunning little harbour
Atokos Kefalonia and Arkoudi maybe?

Im actually in Kos now, and it is baking. If I was the OP I’d maybe come out in September.

As for Kos then it is a toss up between Kos Town and Tingaki for me, but I think the variety of Kos town just wins it for me.
30 years since I've been to kos. Myself and a mate went flight only, no accommodation, wandered round the harbour of kos Town and ended up in a hotel right on the corner of the harbour, amazing location and a room on the front for the equivalent of £10 a night. Spent 2 nights there before bouncing around the islands on hydrofoil for 2 weeks then back to kos for our flight home. Never had accommodation just got of the boats and walked around till we found some, £3 a night was the best we got, in Rhodes Town and it was spot on. The communal kitchen had a well stocked fridge (other people's stuff obviously)but we didn't care. Best holiday ever and cemented my love for Greece and the Greeks.

Going to Kos in August, first time ive been, i have nothing to add here
make sure you have a trip up the volcano on the island. white knuckle ride on the bus up as the sheer drop. get to walk across the volcano surface and you see the red hot bubbles and it stinks. experience though

Agios Stefanos, NW Corfu. Plenty of Tavernas in the village and quite a few on the beach for during the day and evening meals watching the sunsets. Will be there in 4 weeks time. Been going each year for over 30 yrs and lived there for awhile. Can't recommend it enough.
Was our first choice for last week's trip to corfu but couldn't find accommodation we fancied. Stayed there 3 years back and loved it, great little place, Zorbas is a fantastic restaurant.

We stayed in Sugar and Almond apartments when we were there, got it for £44 night on Booking.com, had to be a mistake as next year they wanted £160 per night.

Look out for the Mimikos bar on the main street behind the seafront promenade - family run, and always busy, lots of locals also drink there. Drinks are very reasonable and they they bring out so many snacks that if you go before your evening meal you might end up not bothering to move to a restaurant.

We stayed at The Sands hotel, on the outskirts, and on more than a few occasions we found ourselves wobbling back from Mimikos at 4am or later.

Oh wise SMB, we have decided, heatwave and dead TV presenters notwithstanding, that we will be going to visit a Greek island this Summer, but having never been before we have no real idea as to where to go.

The main criteria are that it has to be picturesque, near the water and have plenty of decent tavernas / restaurants where we can sit preferably by a lovely harbour or somesuch and relax with nice local seafood etc. But no thumping house beats from local bars, no cheesy cafes advertising a full bloody english for 5 euros, don't want it to be too built up, and so on. Think Malcesine on Lake Garda but shifted to Greece. Any ideas based on good experiences, anyone?
I used to have a share in a bar in Laganas in Zante, Laganas is lively however all the other resorts on the island are picturesque and would be ideal! My preference is kalamaki as only 10 mins from airport.

Just to add with regard to beaches.

They don't come any better than the northern ones in Skiathos up around kounikarues.

As good as any you will find anywhere in the world. Pure white sand backed by palm trees. The small beach down from and operated by the Palace hotel you could easily be in the carribean

Maratha beach is called.. has a bar in it and serves snacks
Only bothered to go koukanaries , other times just used the Town beach itself , will have to try that one , always stay in the town as plenty going on in an evening and piece of piss for the airport 😆

Balos day trip from chania
Chania is spot on , was there 2 years back
Just come back from Paphos , been very hot

We're off to Kos on Sunday morning, followed by Zante in August (avoiding opening day of the season)
Think we'll be venturing to different islands next year. Zante was usually the go to but the prices have went right up

Currently in Crete (Malia) and it is scorching! Just been to the beach in Stalis, free sunbeds and umbrellas, just got to buy their beer n scran! Malia old town is fantastic (San Georgio) is our favourite restraunt! Lovely ciews of the mountains, especially when sun is going down and they light the candles! Koutouloufari tomorrow, agsin excellent food, ties in perfectly with her shopping for a few hours, leaving you to sample local bars in Hersonnisis also! Only paying €3-4 a pint too!

Maritas apartments
Sorry, but I’m not familiar with them.

Once you’re in Agia Marina, the best bar is Divino’s - right next to the petrol station.

A few others, if you want football or a quiet night.

Loads of good places to eat and I’m happy to recommend some.

Bus into Chania is €3 each way and run until midnight. The harbour area is great, but look further afield as well. Again, happy to give you some suggestions.

Platanias is the place for younger, nightlife. It’s virtually joined on to Agia - a 10 minute walk away.

It will be hot. We went late April this time because it gets high 30s about now.

Ask any questions, but have a fab time 🇬🇷👍🌞
