Frank Lampard - manager rumours

You know our players would have been watching football in teenage years right?
So, I highly doubt Luis Semedo, Ba, Pembele, Aouchiche, Mayenda, Seelt, Bennette and a number of others have any real idea of who he is- and the rest of the team are unlikely to have the same image of him as a probably world class centre-half cerca 2006-2011. Which is the more important point- in comparison to Keane who had only left Man Utd about 18 months before- and had been one of the world's best midfielders about 3 years earlier.

I might be wrong, and Hemir might have grown up with a John Terry poster on his bedroom wall. But I think it's particularly unlikely.

I think the argument that John Terry, would be a good manager because he would overawe the team- is very very unlikely.

I'm sure O'Nien would be buzzing of course

I’m pretty sure all of them will be very aware of John Terry mate. No one said anything about posters on bedroom walls but you are talking about a bloke who won everything you can domestically and captained England in recent history. Going on as if it was 30 years ago 🤣

If he does it will be more down to his breeding than anything we do. Chelsea. West Ham United. England international. We are a mid table Championship club. Why would someone with his top flight experience touch us with a bargepole? So if he does turn us down my conscience will be clear at least.
You crack me up.

Exactly
If we can’t financially entice will still over Lens I very much doubt we’ll be giving Lampard a Salary he’d want for starters
Added to fact he’d want staff with him like you say
And as for transfer budget he’d want, enough said 😂😂😂
Added to all that lot, a bloke with an off the charts IQ isn't thinking that coming to Safc at the moment would be good move.

I agree with all of this. Because, as a 40 year old man, I have absolutely no awareness, nor have I EVER heard of Norman Hunter, Bobby Moore, Dave Watson or Alan Hansen. I'm too young, and therefore, I'd have no respect for them at all if they were my manager.

Your point might have been stronger if any of them had turned out to be decent managers (hunter getting Barnsley into Division two, I guess).

So, if you think that the main point of my argument was that many of our players.literally have never heard of John Terry- then you might be right- though I'm skeptical- Luis Hemir (for example) might know who he is.

However, I would still argue that Terry's playing career was too long ago for him to immediately command the respect of our very young, multi-national team.

In the same way that Keane did for us (Keane having left Man Utd around 18 months before, and having been a world class midfielder withing the previous 3 years). I would even argue that some of Keane's problems at Ipswich was that he was getting more distant from his reputation as a world class player- and becoming known more as a manager of championship/lower premier league teams- I think that was a difficult transition for him- but whatever it was, he never fulfilled the promise of being a great manager that he showed in his first season with us*.

Look, I might be wrong- maybe Terry will be a class manager and we should get him, I just don't think so, for the reasons highlighted.

*At the time I literally thought he was going to be on Mourinho's level- he was absolutely phenomenal, when he got us promoted.
