Liam Rosenior

Smith tried to sign him, Bull, Mutch and Byrne that season without success. He certainly knew a striker when he saw one.
Yeah I liked Davenport but think a Marco/Johnny Byrne partnership in 1990/91 would have kept us up.

Fair points but I don’t think Rosenior is a bad manager. 7th was a good finish considering teams ahead of him. Always impresses me when I hear him speak.
Yep, Totally agree he seems like a decent fella, who speaks really well.
Young which must be a help with the average age our squad and seems to me like he has fire in his belly.
He obviously knows the league so that helps as well.
Shambles how long this has took, but in the end it’s always a bit of a gamble, no matter who you get.
Although I think a blind man, no disrespect meant, could tell Michael Beale and Doddsy weren’t the answer.

It’s one helpful bit of data, it doesn’t prove nearly as much as some would like it to. There are a multitude of reasons and lots of context to teams create a lot/a little in any given game, XG just boils it all down to numbers and people who didn’t watch the games latch in to it.

People who watch the games review it also.

One of the biggest criticisms of Beale at QPR by their fans who watched their games was his xG was shite and he was being bailed out by low xG attempts going in. It wasn’t sustainable and as it started going to pot he done off.

It’s a pretty decent barometer of whether a side is good at creating/stopping chances over a prolonged period of time tbf.

Rosenior/the owner almost doubled Hulls wage bill, had them operating at a huge loss, and whilst that wage bill saw them make an expected improvement in league position, it fell short of their target of playoffs/promotion and whilst the owner does seem to be a bit of a loon the xG data over the course of the 18 months there does suggest they didn’t really create much which corresponds with him saying he was sacked because they didn’t play well and tbf only one team in the top 10 (10th) scored less goals than them and they conceded more than us which follows a similar path as the xG.

The owner couldn't have been clearer, he was sacked because of his playing style.

The Hull City owner,a Turk, only approached the one German fella to replace him.
Local press now quoting him as stating the current captain of Turkey
told him who his favourite manager was.
Make of that what you will...

Aye he seems a bit of a loose cannon 😂

What's niggling me is the Page link. When Mowbray first went Beales name was mentioned and thankfully at the time, got shot down and disappeared. Only to reappear later and before we knew it, he'd got the job. At the time I felt like his name was leaked to the fans to more or less let them get used to the idea.
I'm hoping Page isn't a similar thing as he was linked weeks ago and again, disappeared without trace and everyone got absorbed with the Still & Maric links. Now Page's name is popping up again, I hope it's not a similar scenario and his name has been put out there to more or less gauge opinion or get the fans expectations lowered.
Really hope I'm wrong.

We can do this until the works ends. It’s a far more limited as an indicator of how good a manager is than people make out. Cite the Beale example as many times as you want, it’s irrelevant. Different manager, different circumstances, different results. I don’t know where you are drawing a comparison, apart from the fact you don’t like either of them.

There is so much that one very specific data point does not take into account, in any given scenario. People hate context and nuance tho, they just want a number they can use to back up their preconceived ideas.

Hull looked very good on the few occasions I saw them. I don’t see many of their fans saying they’re happy he is gone, or that it was dull to watch.

Their two performances against us were an abomination tbf which is what most fans will have witnessed of hull. And we were shite around then as well

Hell - at this point,if he has two arms, two legs and is breathing then he'll do.

(sounds a bit like my sex life, tbh... 🤣 )
