Will Still - Lens Manager

Mind me asking how you know this?
It pretty much went into the public domain the night of the last supporters collective meeting, which I attended. I certainly wasn't going to be the first to say it, but within a couple of hours of it finishing people were on here saying an appointment should be imminent. That exact wording was used by someone who would know.

Well, that's what happened. Maric was all done till Still got wind of it and quit.

Does it look like Still is happening then?

I have to be honest - I stopped engaging about a week ago, at roughly the time Fishpaste said it was off.

So am asking for latest only because trust you as a source…

Do you not think it was potentially said just to try and calm supporters?

Just seems odd that Still quit on the 2nd of May, and the club thought an appointment was about to be made on the 9th. If Still left because of Maric, you'd think he'd immediately have spoken to safc to say he was interested, and that the club therefore wouldn't be certain they were getting Maric a week later. Maybe they were near to getting Maric before the 2nd, then Still left and it changed things, I'd just be very surprised if the person they thought they were getting on the 9th was Maric, since Still had been available for a week prior

Could have been, but Still left a week prior, so it would be strange for it to have been him, only for safc to suddenly decide they'd rather have Still. The timeline makes more sense that Still left, safc targeted him, had very positive discussions, thought it was ready to finalise, and then something late on (like back room staff arrangements) delayed it. Should stress this is an educated guess at what's happened but from what I do know (that we were near to appointing someone a week after Still left Reims) it makes the most sense

The lad will be our next Head Coach

No. I meant it was Maric, right up till the day Still quit.

Not in the slightest. They'll have known it would leak and the last thing they'd want is people thinking it's done only for nothing to happen, because that makes it look like they've fucked something up, and that's a look they can ill afford at present. They'd have been better off saying nothing and we'd all just assume the process was ongoing.

I still say Bruce fed the line just because Speakman didn't want to face questions about his own future mate.

I think it’s more than reasonable to assume they had someone lined up ready to appoint and then their ideal candidate in still suddenly became available and achievable.
It is mate, but it doesn’t suit the narrative of many in this thread. People are desperate for it to be incompetence rather than the preferred, number 1 target becoming available.
I think it shows very positive signs that we’ve landed our number 1 target and also had another good target ready to come in before that

Obviously I wasn’t there but might that comment have not been 100% accurate? The sort of thing you might say to get through a conversation or whatever.

Edit. See you’ve answered pretty much this

I just think it makes them look worse when nothing happens. If Speakman wanted to avoid questions he'd be better off saying he had the shits. From the atmosphere in the room they'd have to be pretty good actors if it was all just a ruse to get Speakman out of a tight spot, but who knows. Either way let's just hope they eventually get the right person in. With players still away, and the summer window normally taking a while to get going (added to the fact that the head coach won't be the only person with input into signings, so plenty of work can be ongoing) I don't think it's a disaster at present, but they need to get the appointment right and they really don't want to be dragging it long into June

Agreed….id be very surprised if still hadn’t pushed for some key elements that will give him the best chance of succeeding

The bloke has a clear vision for his career he stated he wanted to come to England and he isn’t going to damage his reputation by accepting whatever we gave him.

Key personnel that he feels have contributed to the good things he has done

Some assurances around transfers

None of this guarantees success but it should help to mitigate the risks that come with his appointment.

Excited to see what he can do
