Look at the ship on Manchester Utd & Manchester City's badge. The Echo building would be more relevant than harking back to an industry that hasn't had any ties to Sunderland since the 1980s.

Peter Reid is more synonymous with the current badgeJust why? What’s the point?
Waste of money really just to make those who can’t move on happy. The old badge looks retro, feels retro and is retro. What’s the point in stepping back? Peter Reid is long gone. Just get over it man, we play at the stadium of light now, not roker park.
Ridiculous this harking back to the past constantly.
Like the one we have now. Past is the past just let be. Find all this chopping and changing a bit classless if the truth be told. It's like our home strip, it just should not change that much so people know who we are just by looking at it.
Each to his own mate.To be fair the new one badly needs to change as it's horrible for online to the stage that there's a fake version that everyone seems to use. We just shouldn't be going backwards.
Agreed, the new badge has beem in use far longer than the ship badge was, it wasn't ultra historic either. I say this as someone that originally was pissed off to lose the ship badge. What will be will be.Like the one we have now. Past is the past just let be. Find all this chopping and changing a bit classless if the truth be told. Think people might be missing the origins of itThe current one is far too similar to the Magpie Saudi scumbags
Explain how you work that out then clever shite.

Hope not. Looks like a child drew it. On the back of a packet of Seabrook ready salted.
Cheap and old fashioned, not in a good way.
So does that make me a Mackem Geordie or a Geordie Mackem?Sunlun supporters are widely referred to a Mackems from pundits, commentators and folk from outside the region when you tell them who you support.
It’s become an identity since the mid 90s and can’t see a problem with it personally. Anything to differentiate us from the mags can only be a good thing!
You might have won me around.I don’t mind the current one, but it’s a bit of a McMansion where different elements have been cobbled together to try and make something grand but it just comes across a bit confused.
Ship badge is a clean, classic design. It’s simple and iconic, doesn’t look like anyone else’s, and the incorporation of the waves works really well.
Just go with that, or get the lad who does design for SAFC/England stuff make something new.
