Longship pub closed in Hebburn due to fighting- mags got a hiding.

My pride and joy Peugeot 205 gti broke down just near the longship in 1987ish, so I pulled it into a residential street, bout 10 in morning on a school day, and made my way via metro / bus etc to my dads in seaham, him and I went through to tow it back. In total say 4 hours and I reckon it was about 3 actually. It proved v difficult to tow a car with no alloys, car radio cassette player (top make as well), no drivers window or heated rear window and a v bent steering wheel where someone had kindly tried to take my steering lock off for me. My dad and me went in the longship for a pint and to dry my eyes, where I was offered a top bollocks radio cassette and a talking heads tape for a knockdown price. Never been back since.

My abiding memory of Hebburn is a stand off with a massive Alsatian on the Luke’s Lane Estate.

it blocked my path and was growling at me. I was furious and refused to give it any ground. I genuinely thought I would punch its lights out.

It obviously got the message and scuttled off.

Back then there was a Peugeot dealership about a 100 yards away.

Got my Saab 9000 stolen from outside of my then house in Roker, got a call from the polis that it was was being chased at a distance along John Reid Road and another call that it had been 'recovered' from some waste ground and it was in a shed in Jarra. I went to pick it up and couldn't see it at first as all that was left was a burnt out shell on the ground about a metre in height, tools, music, tyres, everything had gone up in smoke.

The bloke in charge put the blame at the door of an gang of TWOC'ers from Hebburn who were running rampant at the time (30 years ago).
