Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

30% of Stewart's goals last season were penalties, another 10% were rebounds from penalties he missed. So that's 40% of his goals either penalties or rebounds from missed pens.

Gyokeres scored 40 goals in 2 Championship seasons, only 3 if which were penalties. 7.5% of his goals. Don't know if he missed any and then scored rebounds. He missed 2 penalties in 2 years though.
So what about the 2 penalties that Stewart won by being clean through on goal like at Boro? Do they not count?

Is anyone actually arsed if we sell him now ? It's dragged on for so long that it's evident he doesn't want to play for Sunderland and certainly doesn't see us as the club to take him to the next level

He's been unavailable for 37 of our last 50 games, so it feels like he's been gone for quite a while now IMO.

He's obviously a very good player but I don't think you cripple yourself by giving him a ridiculous contract which will obviously have knock-on effects elsewhere, that some are suggesting.

As an example, the top of the list of Championship top scorers last season featured players such as Piroe, Gyokores, Morris and Tella, all players who were signed for a combined less than £6m but of course who would have been written off on here before they'd kicked a ball for us as the usual suspects wouldn't have heard of them.

Cheers for the goals, but you're nowhere near god status at this club and you're certainly not as big as you think.
Only thing that annoys me he has probably been fit for a while but we don t dare get an injury to saleable asset. Same with baath

Interesting that.
In fairness, stewart offered us much more defensively too.
Stewart didn’t come from the model it came from Brian McDermott telling Lee Johnson about him, the model hasn’t brought in a striker yet
Christ  THAT is weird. Isn’t it?

it’s coming isn’t it. Stewart will fuck off and then no doubt we couldn’t find the right replacement.

We’ll be told how we were blindsided by our own decision not to pay him enough, leaving ourselves without enough time to do what we’ve failed to do for three consecutive.

Many apologists will, as usual, lap it up.

All this could have been avoided had he signed a new contract. The club weren't being tight with his contract offer. Wasn't he offered 5 times his wage he's on now ? Like I've said, he's quality at this level, but he's not bigger than the club.

Yeah gutted if he goes, as this years play off chance will go with him, and he dragged us out of the horror that was league 1, not single handily but there is no chance we went up without him, and anyone saying different is just using revisionist history I’m afraid.

He doesn’t think he’s bigger than the club he wants a big pay day it’ll be the biggest pay day of career

I don't think clubs are going to offer a shit tonne more a week to be honest with this injury he's had. All a guessing game really but Southampton would be a step up in reality. It's the like of Boro that would be the head scratcher

Most will totaly understand the logic IF we replace him with a suitable option, ie a striker that can score goals, like him etc etc.

Most will not understand if we flog him and then get a body in to fill a seat.
This is it. I don’t want to see him go and I think it’d be a real shame, but if he does then just make sure we have a replacement in. We should’ve had another senior forward in regardless.

Difficult one this for the club imho He obviously isn't going to sign a new contract. No one knows what he's going to be like when he returns, he's had a terrible injury for a footballer and hasn't played for 8 months.

If he isn't going to sign a contract it's going to be a good couple of months for him to get match fit plus players coming back from long term injuries always seem to pick up little niggles when they start playing again

If we were only offered a couple of million they would probably rather keep him for the rest of the season but if it's 7 or 8 they will probably take it

Aye, it’s pretty easy to cherry pick a handful of ones that have worked from hundreds that haven’t tbf.

Though transfer fees themselves don’t necessarily reflect success, or at least contextual success, wages tend to.
