Whisky

But a contributor to a fairly new but well respected website and not some loon from FB.

Might be a case that some arseholes were still getting quite a few more than one bottle per customer
I don't see how, that's the thing, not knowingly to the staff anyway

Yeah I mean I contacted Mitchell’s before about some clear piss taking retailers and they were clear that they wanted to stop owt like that.

Not like the article is some random bloke on FB though, maybe a fair bit of exaggeration going on
I was talking to the manager of the Washback bar in Springbank and he said they've had a cull on retailers who take the piss with the price of their bottles. If they don't charge realistically they've been told they simply won't get any more.
Different Donald
It was Robert in Cadenheads ;)
I also know now how I managed to get that Ukrainian bottle.
Apparently Springbank had loads of bottles left after the Cambletown launch, they were surprised at how few people came down (although one bloke had flew over from Seoul to get one). The next week they sent the spare cases to Cadenheads in Edinburgh.

Perfect timing

The problem seems to be retailers acquiring via 3rd parties. I know from talking to the lad in Pooley Bridge that they get their Mitchell stocks ( apart from the 1 bottle they say they get direct) from intermediaries.
They might buy from Mitchells and sell a £50 bottle for say £65...on the face of it not wildly excessive. The shop buying it then sell it for something mental like £120 !
Can appreciate how difficult it is for them to stop that

I did ask you if you wanted one but you said no. :)

They had loads of the SB 15 in, £70 a bottle on the Monday and £72 on the Tuesday when the March Budget kicked in. Only one per person per day, managed to get 3 and selling them to my mates for £100 so mines effectively free.

I was in the queue that day, and was surprised how few turned up myself. They'd put big marquee tents up and everything, and the queue was only a couple of dozen people or so long

Anyone had any experience with the Old Particular bottlings that’s available seen a couple which i’m interested in a North British 18 year and a Teaninich 12 . Just wondering if anyone has had any of the other bottles from other distilleries ?

Just having an Eligah Craig barrel proof it’s the highest proof thing i’ve ever drunk 68.3% . First sip was ok 2nd not so , have put a fair bit of water in me glass just get this very strong cherry flavour, can see this bottle lasting a long time. Had the small batch version which was good this is something else.

Canny voltage that ! Don't mind a bourbon but never had Eligah Craig

Took delivery of my Bimber cask bottles today. I can’t say I was especially anticipating them as I was very underwhelmed by a recent sample I had. Fortunately it seems much improved albeit not the finest Bimber I’ve had.

Teaninich can be quite decent. The only two North British expressions I’ve liked were both 45+ years old.

The original Elijah Craig 12yo was my favourite bourbon until they discontinued it in favour of the small batch, as they didn't have the stocks to meet demand going forward for the 12yo. Absolutely gutted as it was a belter! I couldn't get away with the small batch as I was such a big fan of the 12, it's pale by comparison IMO. Luckily I bagged myself a few bottles before it all flew off the shelves, still have 3 stashed away I think :) Never had the batch strength but I believe it's aged 12 years, so with some water I'd probably really like it. You mention cherry, one of my favourite profiles from a whiskey

Yes it says it’s 12 years on a label on the side but it’s a completely different label bottle style from the older bottles, heard the older stuff was very highly recommended. Seen a ralphy review of an old bottling which you have he really liked it and gave it a 90/91.
It’s has a very strong cherry flavour to it.

Nice colour.

Looking for some help with Whisky. Mate is 40 at the end of the month, is a scotch drinker and a few of us are chucking in to get him a bottle.

Suggestions for a bottle between £100-150 welcome.

Thanks
