Bid rejected for Clarke

If Clarke is miffed, get those contract talks opened up again and increase his wage a bit with an extension.

Best case scenario it makes up for any frustration with us not accepting a bid. Worse case it lets clubs know they’re going to have to pay through the nose to get him.

Nah, but I remember questioning the general consensus abiut on here at the time. All hinged on being ‘not satisfied’ with the playoffs I think. In context it read like just getting into the playoffs wasn’t enough. If we’re in them we’d be expecting to be a serious challenger.

Cheers for your comments and interpretation.

We won't be serious challengers if we are considerably weaker than last season that's for sure.

Can you recall what he said word for word mate? .Seemed massive inference to top 2

"We want to be putting out a team that can be challenging at the top of the league," said Speakman told the club's Youtube channel.

"No-one is satisfied with getting into the play-offs - while it is a great achievement in the first year back, we have to keep being successful and we have to keep improving."

Cheers for that.

None of that aligns with selling off all our best players then. Everyone can just chill

He’s not happy just making it to the playoffs. If we’re in them we’ll not be satisfied unless we go very close to winning them.
So you are actually saying he meant that he does't want automatic promotion, just to do a bit better in the play offs than we did last year?

Really?

Throw away comment? He was being interviewed in his capacity as Head Of Every f***ing Thing To Do With Football at SAFC.

Yea, but it was a conversation about how they would feel towards ambitions next season. It was a simple discussion on people generally wanting to stay up after being promoted, and that he felt that had moved on to a place where everyone would no longer being happy with the playoffs. About how far the club had come etc. It's a giant leap in my opinion to take that and say his expectations are that we are top two next season.

It's why it was a stupid thing to say because it could be taken in that way. If he places top two expectations on Mowbray then he is kidding himself.

Oh ok. So doesn't want automatic, but wants the lottery of the play offs, resulting in promotion. But not the easy way like the automatics. Ffs.
You were asking how else “not just participating in the play offs” could be read. I’ve offered you a suggestion on how else it could be read
