Bid rejected for Clarke

So we pay nearly £10m for him he has an amazing season and they are offering just over £10m for him having been promoted

Okay lol
We'll have probably paid about 2/3m of that but apparently there was a 40% sell on fee, so if we sell him for 10m we probably make a net profit of about 3m on him

Speakman has stated that this seasons aim is automatic promotion. That clearly would not sound likely if we were to get to the end of August minus Stewart, Clarke and Diallo and without like for like replacements for each of them.

For now I'm staying glass almost full that they will be true to their word, meaning we will be stronger than last season.

Maybe. I really can't imagine we'd have told Clarke/Harte 10m would have been enough at the start of this window though. Seems very low.

No idea tbh. I’ve always thought 15 plus add ons would be a pretty fair price, or at least close to that to at least begin negotiations and push for a bit more.

But I also don’t think we will stand in a players way too much if bids come in (unless they are clearly taking the piss like Burnley have been).

I’m sure Dave Jones said something along the lines of ‘you need to sell players to make players want to come’ (wasn’t that exact wording) but he was probably touching on something like this.

We seem to be upfront and treat players well as well so I can’t see us just bullshitting them.

There was also talk of canned contract talks a month or so ago as well. That doesn’t mean the player wanted to end them (though he could have) but that we thought we may sell so wasn’t worth it now.

Has he said something different to this as well? There’s no fees mentioned and I can’t remember seeing it so if he has I’ve missed it.

I think I must have read this one and got confused

"Offers upwards of £15m might prompt a conversation" assuming he'd said it when he hadn't, my mistake.

Has he?

Actually that does ring a bell tbh and it’s probably why I’ve had 15 million in my head all summer.

Now thats just silly

Its on a par as in January when we failed to sign a forward and everyone going "at least we didnt sign Will Grigg.
My point is that it's the 'project' (think that's the mag word, we tend to use 'model') that got us in the position we are in. Jack Clarke, Dan Ballard etc are part of the model and at some point they'll leave and we reinvest and improve. We've been told this a million times. People seem to assume we sell all our players and don't replace them.

10m is way too low though. No reason for us to be saying 10m is the amount to Clarke either. If he wanted a minimum fee release clause, he should have asked for one in his contract.

What makes you so confident? If you are a mate of Clarke’s or know him personally I’ll share that confidence. If it’s your personal opinion then I think it’s blind ignorance to suggest he won’t be going anywhere this summer.
No contact or knowledge of anything more than anyone one else on here marra.
We are all ignorant of what is happening behind the scenes.

But other than a short term financial gain, he would be signing for a much smaller Premier club than the one he left behind to join us, and would be starting again with a new club.
He is established here, first choice at a club that is in with a shout of promotion to the Premier League. He has time on his side, so this speculation will have much more credence next summer if we fail. He is happy, has said so repeatedly, as has is agent.

It is summat and nowt man. Bored journalists trying to fill copy space.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

How come all Saints players are being touted for huge figures, ours for peanuts in comparison. No way should we sell for anything less than 20m.

Where did Speakman say this?
