Is that the dog in the pram?WG Grace, Wally Hammond, Mike Procter, Zaheer Abbass, My cousin Rosemary, Jack Russell, Dr Foster..can you hear me Dr Foster?...your boys took one hell of a beating!
Joking aside - what a great performance from Durham again. Just after lunch yesterday we were 109 - 4 and still 217 behind their first innings but did we cave in? Nope we dug in, stepped up a gear and before they knew it Gloucs were under the cosh and 117 runs behind.
And today we got the 5th batting point then Pottsy blitzed them in an electrifying opening spell. But it wasn't just about him as all the bowlers contributed showing the new spirit Campbell has installed into this side.
I'm not really one of life's natural optimists but even I know that we're almost promoted after that result.
Oh and a shout out to Durham's unofficial pet dog mascot who made it 5 home wins out of 5 ( he was absent from the Glamorgan match due to the extreme heat!)
Well done Durham - nearly there.![]()
I've actually spotted our Chairman at the ground but I've yet to see this dog in a pram.Is that the dog in the pram?
Regarding promotion…
229 points is the official figure that we need to be guaranteed promotion based purely on that being the maximum number of points that Leicestershire can get (then being third highest in points still to be played for).
So that’s a further 74 points from our five remaining games. HOWEVER, realistically it won’t need to be that high because it’s virtually impossible for them to win their current game with Glamorgan unless we see a ridiculously contrived set of scores tomorrow to arrive at a target.
Sussex theoretically could win their game, it’s far more likely anyway that a contrived result could occur there given that fixture is much further along than the one at Cardiff. It may well be that Derbyshire are open to being set a target, I know that Micky Arthur is an aggressive minded coach and he’ll not want to stay second bottom for much longer. If there’s a chance they could win that game tomorrow allowing them to keep their slim promotion hopes alive I think they’ll fancy their chances of going for it.
Realistically both of those games will fizzle out into the inevitable draws that are looking most likely at the minute - although Sussex aren’t totally safe if they lose early wickets and that may be an issue that prevents an ‘arranged’ target because Derbyshire will still fancy they can win that one naturally.
In a nutshell, it’s far more straightforward to do the calculations come tomorrow night, once all fixtures from this round of matches is known and then from there we simply need to add 120 points to everyone’s total (144 to Derbyshire who have a game in hand) to see what we need to overcome whoever sits in third place. Currently, second and third are the two clubs I mentioned above but the other factor is that they still need to play each other, so failing the ridiculous possibility that they tie their game and take maximum bonus points, third place won’t be able to take 120 points from the games that remain. More likely it’ll be 104.
The reality of it is, we’re probably going to seal promotion before the kids break up from school.
Last season 224 points wasn’t enough for promotion, this year, the 194 points that Worcestershire totalled in fourth place in 2023 would probably be enough to win the title.
Is your head hurting yet?![]()
Wouldn't dare. If they tried that Woody would threaten to go into their offices and bowl thunderbolts at themBut you’ve overlooked the fact that the ECB will be convening an emergency meeting to work out how they can deduct points from Durham for looking at them in a funny way.

I’ve not been to a Durham Championship game in the flesh this year but I’m seriously considering a day down Scarbados.
