Bowler rotation this Ashes series

scotch

Striker
So, 5 Tests in 6 weeks.
Anderson, Broad, Wood all come out speaking about playing 3/4 out of 5 tests.
Whats the best bowling attack combinations we could make assuming the 3 above make 3 tests.

1) Anderson, Robinson, Wood - Edgbaston
2) Anderson, Robinson, Woakes - Lords
3) Broad, Robinson, Potts - Headingley
4) Anderson, Robinson, Wood - Old Trafford
5) Robinson, Broad, Wood - The Oval

Will stokes bowl during the series ?

Will Leach be the only spinner used ?

As for the options you posted, I think that may very well happen though for the life of me I can’t understand why Trent bridge has not got a test over Headingley considering everything

I mean Australia don’t have a good record at Trent bridge is one reason we should be playing there

It took a minor miracle for England to win at headingley last time in comparison

I really hope Stokes is fit enough to get through 10 overs an innings otherwise Root is going to be bowling alot more than anybody wants.

We just dont have a viable alternative for Leach in home conditions, Ahmed hasnt really done anything with the ball this season (i expect he will be pushing Leach close next year mind if his batting keeps developing alongside his bowling).

Depending on how the 1st test goes and the pitch, id be tempted to play 4 seamers and get Broad in for Leach if the pitch looks like giving him no help at Lords.

Trent bridge not having a test is a huge dissapointment i agree.

Be a gamble with Ahmed but it may pay off at Old Trafford

I agree though this will be down to which set of seamer’s out does the other

I think we are evenly matched for top five batting runs but hopefully our seamer’s out play theirs

It also could come down to wickets 6 to 10 and which tailenders help put on a vital 50 to 100 to turn a test

This of course will be Englands test , if we are going down the bouncer route when 9. 10, Jack are at the crease with no slips and 7 men on the boundary

It depends who is truly fit

Anderson, Robinson, Broad, Leach probably

No arguments for Wood over Broad if that’s the decision
I agree with the seamer’s , leach appears to be guaranteed as well

Edgbaston though could see Wood play, doing a Simon jones role

Stokes , I just can’t see him bowling more that a token 5 over spell if we are in bother

Trent Bridge is not big enough for a regular Ashes test imo. From memory Edgbaston and Old Trafford are both 25k+ now and likely shoo-ins for regular Ashes cricket, along with Lords and The Oval.

The last venue might work on rotation (Leeds, Southampton, Notts).

Point me to where I've said that.

Test squad to face Ireland

thank god the bloke averaging 32 is dropped anyway. Hopefully he can improve playing in the royal london

Aye its tricky, something like this.

Rotation sometimes gets talked about loads but they often end up playing a lot

I remember in 17/18 Australia picked the same attack for all 5, or just about.

Wood feels absolute key if they get the pitches Stokes wants.

I think Trent bridge is at least the same size as Headingley though

Why not play tests where the Australians rarely win ?

As for headingley having an ashes test with the racism scandal pending punishment is not right imo

Play whatever attack you like, you ain't gonna win when you've got a binman behind the stumps.

Foakes isn't playing mate, or do you mean Pope who he was dropped for in Pakistan?

One of the great grounds Trent Bridge, maybe you are right

Happy there is one in Leeds though, there had to be after 2019 IMO.

CLS by comparison is 17000 for international games, but that’s obviously never going to be for a test match again

England won every test at CLS iirc
