Ashes Pressure

scotch

Striker
Looking at our potential lineup and cant think of a series where each individual had so much pressure on them

Crawley - cant buy a run, looks shot against good pace bowling, luckiest Batter to have played for England right now
Ducket - never opened for England in England
Pope - VC and a terrible 2nd innings average
Root - had 15 balls in 3 months
Brook - nothing but low scores barring 1 great knick in IPL
Stokes - not batted since 3rd April, cant bowl...can he even run?
Bairstow - returning from horror injury, limping, now keeping and Foakes is waiting outside
Robinson - just his fitness really
Wood - averages 40 at home, will probably be needed for 4 tests if his body can stand up to it
Broad - is this his farewell?
Anderson - pushing 41 and now coming back from injury, wont play 5 tests in 6 weeks, needs to be managed well
Leach - averaging 40 under stokes, Australia will come at him, doesnt usually go well when hes attacked.

Positive i guess is that every player for one reason or another has something to prove alongside the obvious will of winning the Ashes.

f***ing hell mate not the way I look at things.

We are on the crest of a wave playing brilliant and winning test cricket.

As for pressure, that has been the one undoubtable success of this set up!

It has been able to take away the pressure and got the players playing with confidence and freedom and very rare commodity in top class international sport.

You have stated some facts and statistics about many players. There is always pressure but I cant see an argument for Pope, Root, Stokes, Robinson, Wood, Broad, Anderson having any more pressure than usual. Same with leach really.

Let's just declare Australia 5-0 winners and play the 100 for two months instead then shall we.
For how they treated Foakes, there's a small part of me that would love that just to teach McCullum not to be so f***ing arrogant

What on earth is all this about? We have won 10 out of 12, the team has never been in a better place

Literally stunned by this post, I give up.

Christ. Haha. Foakes has not been treated badly in the slightest. Its international sport man ffs

Possibly the worst thread I have seen in a while. Only in England could people turn on a team who have played some of the best cricket of all time and broke all sorts of records.

We won all 6 tests last summer, an unheard of 3-0 in Pakistan scoring at over 5 an over, some of the most exciting tests matches in NZ I have seen.

Yet somehow the team is under pressure and not performing. Really dont get it.

Agree on the bits on bold, and I said at the time on the thread when we lost to New Zealand that it would probably be a good thing for the Ashes and act almost as a reality check for how England were going about things - they were getting a little to gung ho about things.

I just dont understand what you have been watching the last 12 months, its been the best period of cricket I have seen in my life time. There are no negatives, non whatsoever, and you have just started a thread like this!

Don't want to start an argument but genuinely cant get my head round this, struggling to think what more they could have done to impress you.

Bit yes and no mate , like everything there is balance and certainly agree on the odd occasion the balance tipped too much attacking just the odd one

But it’s been a hell of ride last year and I have loved it for one and long may it continue.

So looking forward to it and this England side giving it a right good go :D

No ones saying that.
But we were in a better position at the end of our last test than we are now.
Archer/Stone out/injured
Stokes was meant to be fit as an all rounder.

Stokes as a fit 4th seamer really sets the team up otherwise we end up relying on either a 41 year old to stay fit or/alongside our only express bowler staying fit -lest we end up with 2 seamers, leach and root as a bowling attack in a test
For how they treated Foakes, there's a small part of me that would love that just to teach McCullum not to be so f***ing arrogant
Foakes has been harshly done, I hope for Johnny's sake that his keeping is as good as it was last time.
I genuinely think they've both been unfairly treated if Johnny doesnt score runs and hold all the catches it'll be seen as a mistake

Absolutely nobody in cricket thinks recalling Bairstow will be a mistake. Again, you dont seem to have watched England play in the last year.

First name on the team sheet after Stokes, Root n Jimmy

Wood is more down to the fact hes our only quick left standing.
Anderson has to be managed.
Stokes, is Captain, could do with him scoring big if his impact with the ball is compromised, always massive pressure on Captains in Ashes series

We won nearly every test we played, the only thing the did wrong was enforcin declaration in NZ, otherwise it would be perfect.
