this year’s C2C - 2023

Me and the wife did it before the kids were born, my daughter turns 13 in a few months so probs 15 years ago!

Had a loss of bike trouble, 6 flat tires and a snapped chain between us, if it wasn’t for herbal and John we would have never made it. Was tough at the time as neither of us were cyclists and my priority was making sure she made it round so we didn’t get to make the most of the pubs really, but really enjoyed it.

Her determination to not give up was second to none, still remember coming down the path with the old rail lines on it as you come in to Sunderland, pissing down with rain, about 3 flat tires in, the pedal had cut all her leg and she was crying, but never gave up.

She sounds very resilient mate.

I borrowed a van from graft to drop all the bikes off in Whitehaven for a group my brother had organised, then dropped their gear off in Keswick.

Arranged to pick them up early doors on the Sunday at Roker , but nobody realised it was the air show weekend and I had to argue the toss with a jobsworth to be allowed to pick the bikes and gear up.

Never done it and have wanted to for a while, so I may be your man, what's the details and will confirm by end of evening.
Being a fair weather cyclist I've only had 1 x 30k ride this year since November, will do a bit training and sure I will manage it.
Looks like a good time for me also
Over qualified tbh
I'd be the only one with hair barring young Sneech like. I might PM him for tips.
excuse me

TBF, they’d ridden that far why not just ride to their final destination.

We did it with zero support, you don’t really need it unless you’re as unlucky as some of the Herbal bunch, we could fix almost anything roadside so long as you’ve given your bike a good going over before you leave. We got a bloke who works out of Thompson Park to drop us all over with our bikes.

Whitehaven > Penrith, Penrith > Stanhope, Stanhope > Home. Weather was class, only rained on the descent into Stanhope which was good.

It’s making it unnecessary difficult though. We’ve had numerous mechanicals over the years which have required a trip to the nearest bike shop. That would be a disaster if there was no van.

Meh. Always a way but if you can get someone to drive a van then happy days. We would’ve got told to go forth. Have a good’un.

3 we’re going back to Edinburgh for starters.

☹️

If you can do 30 miles it's do able like, as H says you have a lot of time to do it each day and there's plenty of stops and rests.

If the worst comes to the worst then we have a support van and you can sling your bike in that and get a lift the rest of the way. I don't think anyones ever needed it before though, well apart from me last year but I had a catastrophic equipment failure
Your lighter stopped working?
