Club are looking to extend the stadium

South stand make it around 55,000? Full 64,000 ?
55k I'd have thought assuming that a south stand upper reflects the north stand extension more or less identically.

Any extension is years away. 5-7 years at least before a decision to go ahead would even reach the bottom of the agenda notes on KLD's weekly club meetings, imo anyway.

Assuming it takes us at least another 1-2 years minimum to get back into the PL, a few years (at least) established there, we'd get 45k week in week out, selling out mags games and the odd game V a top team / important crunch game end of the season.

Whether 2/3k empty seats for two thirds of the home games in a season would be considered enough grounds to go ahead with spending money on an extension (and who knows what the state of building contractors costs will be by then - no way we'd get it done as cheap as Murray did in 2000) I'm honestly not so sure.

We'd need to be selling out a clear majority of home games for the ownership to even bother considering it to my mind.

If we extended the capacity of the stadium, it’ll probably be to 60,000

Only two stadiums have been used under 60,000 seats since 2000 (Hampden Park 2002, Estadio do Dragao 2021).

The finals are usually held in stadiums that are modern (at the time) and capacity wise is often 70k+

Next 3 finals:

2022/2023: Gazprom Arena 68k (Russia - probs will change the way it’s going between Russia and Ukraine) - likely to a bigger one.

2023/2024: Allianz Arena 75k (Germany)

2024/2025: Wembley 90k (England)

We may get it for the Euros if we got the extension (probably get it without too), but we won’t get the champions league final man. I think every final of the champions league that’s held in England from now on will be at Wembley.
So it does get held in stadiums less than Wembley and the bernabau. Cheers for that

If true it makes sense to spend a bit more and do it up then spending a fortune on a spruce up

i can see a flaw in the argument here

as if the club are going to spend £100s of millions to extend the ground when they are so tight they have taken the free pie and peas off black cats bar season ticket holders and can't afford to pay someone to answer the phone at the ticket office

some people will believe anything

The op has posted this on the other board  haway

I dont post at all on here anymore but follow all of yous who get good info - I just keep to RTG so im not posting over both, Ive took your info and posted over there - its opened up some debate as you would expect

That would be me

They should use the cash to build another road out of the stadium area so that the 15,000 who leave early to beat the traffic (even though the vast majority don't travel by car) wouldn't have to

Not seats surely? Even in the Prem we didn't sell out most weeks, ridiculous idea unless they plan on pumping hundreds of millions into us to get us into Europe and pull the fans in.

I'd certainly extend other areas out but the seating doesn't need doing unless we have success.

that's the plan I reckon. The club are that confident of european football with all these wonderkids we're just gonna build the expansion ready and raring to go.
