Could be worse, could give away 10k season ticketsAgree with this, there's been rumours about him wanting to have a bigger stadium than Newcastle but not sure how true that is. No doubt 48K is fine if we're flying in the Premier League but I think Murray needed to judge our gates when things aren't going well before extending.
It's left us vulnerable to comments about empty seats even though averaging over 40K during our largely dispiriting 10 seasons in the PL was a miracle.
26k so far: we get 30k and that is beyond brilliant for a cup game on tv.......for us as we never turn out normally for cup gamesSo how many we selt?
Certainly. It is what it is.Indeed. I reckon they’d get 52,000 this season though. Not a criticism of our home suppport, just saying.
That's not bad. Looking forward to it.26k so far: we get 30k and that is beyond brilliant for a cup game on tv.......for us as we never turn out normally for cup games
there was a fine rendition of wankers hat in Gosforth Spoons cpl weeks ago and it's so catchy you can't help but jpoi in, my missus was a bit confused likeWas drinking in Jesmond a few months ago and heard a group of people burst out in Sunderland chants
"Vulnerable to comments"?It’s correct though.
Think them Gateshead numbers are a bit skewed. I spent the last year working there and it was 60/40 at a push in their favour IMO. Even the mags I worked with said it was about 50/50.They’ve always had more fans mate. Simple geography. North of Tyne is theirs, despite a few pockets of our fans in South East Northumberland in particular. That’s not saying we don’t have fans elsewhere north of the Tyne, as we do, all over in fact, just not in any numbers.
South of Tyne they have Gateshead by about 75/25 (and I might be being generous to us there), and I’d say South Tyneside was split. NW Durham probably 65/35 them, and Durham City and SW Durham I’d say 60/40 us.
The only areas we are dominant are Sunderland (the town) itself and East Durham. Other parts of the City of Sunderland I’d say 50/50 Washington (55/45 SAFC at a push), but more dominant for us in Houghton and Hetton (maybe 70/30 overall).
Therefore, the fact we haven’t been a kick in the arse off them for many years, despite having faced a lot more shit on the pitch, is testament to our supporters.
As a percentage of matchgoing fans to total support I think we’d win that contest easily, for what it’s worth.
Aye but when they were in the championship they wouldn’tIndeed. I reckon they’d get 52,000 this season though. Not a criticism of our home suppport, just saying.
Agree mate, when I get the metro over from Gossy there is always a few in red n white on but when you get to Gateshead there are a load get on, see 2 women get on all the time with faces painted red n white, i would applaud their bollox if they had anyThink them Gateshead numbers are a bit skewed. I know they aways had more fans mate. It's the money now I'm referring to.
Try driving out of Sunderland after a game in any direction. Bulk of support is from out of town. Does it matter?I definitely think more from surrounding areas. Very rarely hear a proper mackem accent at the SoL and away games.
Don't know about that, the mags reckon it's 90/25 in their favour.Fair enough, but you get the gist. I'd say no better than 65/35 in their favour in my experience.
Oh right, sorry.
I remember shack writing and agreeing with you back in the 70s.I thought it was common knowledge that the majority of SAFC's crowd comes from outside of Sunderland, but the biggest percentage (say 45% for arguments sake) are from Sunderland.
You Man City’s accountantDon't know about that, the mags reckon it's 90/25 in their favour.
I suppose somebody reminded us that a 5th round tie with Southampton attracted 16K just a few seasons ago.....26k is hardly cup fever more like a runny nose and tickly throat
