We are the best supported club in the Championship

We are miles of being a really good side . It’s great relative to the last few years but when people say good they don’t mean middle of the second division

We are playing some of the best attacking football I've witnessed in my 45 plus years of support. We are a very good side to watch and everyone is busting a gut for the team. We are only 3 points off the play offs which is excellent given we only went up through the play offs.

We have some great, clever attacking footballers in Amad, Roberts, Clarke, Stewart and even Dan Neil. Their link up play is excellent. We have scored some amazing team goals. Also lots of exciting young talent on the bench. In Neil and Patterson we have 2 young north east lads in the team too.

Sure we need premier League football again but I for one am loving watching us this season after 4 fairly turgid seasons in league one.

Villa averaged 36,027.
Leeds averaged 35,321
We are currently on 38,308
Mags last time in this League 51,106

Worth pointing put that the 3 other clubs with huge attendances were all promoted.

That 51k for the mags was due to the Benitez goodwill effect. A more accurate figure would be the 43k when they came down in 2009. Still cracking attendances by the way, but they won the league like

Just think what we’d be like if we were any good.
Been thinking about that for 60 years marra !
Wouldn’t have it any other way …it makes the odd good time tremendous!!
Certainly think these owners need to capture this “ momentum “ mind and not let it fizzle out -everyone is desperate to kick on with this squad of young talent-level of support means nothing unless it’s used to maximum advantage during games -the players and manager need to give us something-the noise after that goalSaturday was tremendous …

And hadn’t been in division 3 for 4 seasons -or back to back relegations-as you say still good support mind

Bob said the North Stand was the home end.

Its Bobs Stadium.

Bob Knars.

Then it needs a name.
Loved it at Roker in late 50s and 60s both ends trying to outsing each other. Good banter as well. Created an atmosphere that even Danny Blanchflower couldn't believe possible

Aye this. Most excited I’ve been about a team since Reidys 98 vintage. Thing is it feels like it’s on that edge which could go either way. Sell a few and we’re struggling again. Add wisely and we are capable of pissing the league

By a mile.

Truly amazing our dedicated fans.
Imagine our average if no illegal streams and pubs didn't show games, we would be sitting on one another's knees with a 96,000 gate.😆

Worth pointing out also Newcastle had spent 70 million in the championship that season and had hugely popular manager who had just been at Real Madrid.

The previous time they were in the championship 5 years earlier and won the league with 102 points, their average attendance was 43,000 which isn't bad but that is still 12k empty seats.

Mags have more fans, whether we like it or not.

Don't think anyone would deny they have a larger fanbase than us. However much of that is simply an accident of Geography. If we were located where they are and vice versa we'd have the larger fanbase. One thing I will say is that I'd have been interested to see how their gates would have held up if they'd had a few years like we've just had. Sadly that will never be put to the test with what's happened but I'm not so sure they'd be averaging high 30s like we are. Maybe they would but I'm not convinced.

Our crowds are good but not remarkable. Ipswich are averaging 26000 in the third tier. Those crowds are more consistent than when Bobby Robson was winning cups and almost winning the title for them. With regard to the general popularity of the game and level of the club within the game, our attendances in the period from 1961 to 1967 were remarkable.

Just checked. 43,388 against a 52,300 capacity so 9k empty seats. Similar amount of gaps we have this season yet they mock!

They had over 29,000 at the weekend!
