Sunderland will face Saudi Arabian opposition Al Shabab in Friendly (poll in Parsnip)

Don't particularly think it's great PR going to Dubai for a weeks break and light training aside from the game itself given the current economic situation and how this might be perceived by many.

Should have went somewhere in the med a bit more low key (Greece or the Canaries) and perhaps arranged friendlies with local clubs there imo.

We could have picked a different team to play. It's fairly obvious how the majority of us feel about the Saudi involvement in sport.
“Saudi involvement” or “Saudi State Involvement” There’s a difference. Playing Shrewsbury doesn’t mean you support the U.K. state or govt.

Most of anything in Russia has some kind of link to the government, in my experience. Certainly, if you have any money, the government is good at finding ways of making sure you are on their side.
I suppose you could call it upside down socialism rather than state capitalism. From each according to his ability, to the few according to their links to Putin. There is a few on here who think Russia is a communist state (if it ever has been). Cue Parsnip.

Some of the reaction is very over the top here mind. Getting some good minutes under the belts of our players just returning from injury.

All for it me.

😂😂😂😂

Well there’s a shock, if Speakman pissed in your mouth and said it was lemonade you’d thank him, and call people fannys if they dare question it.

Would those kicking off have been bothered if we played a Disney 11, or the Starbucks Sunday league side.
It's way over the top this sudden hatred for the Saudis mind. Do they stand outside of BAE systems in Washington to voice their disgust? Or refuse to top up the car with fuel?
It's time to get over the Mag buyout, I couldn't personally give a fuck. Their rules are their rules, their stance is accept it or fuck off.
