Powerlifting/Strength Training Thread

Had to really start again with my squats over last 3 months, perfecting form and bracing and rebuilding my confidence after a hamstring and glute pain for ages. Hit 62.5kg yesterday which may not seem a lot to anyone else but it's the most I've done without pain in years. 115kg deadlift today as well and plenty left in the tank still. Absolutely buzzing off it! 2 weeks left in this block as well so hoping PBs on the way.

@Simpsyla hi mate are you still training? Noticed you haven’t made any videos for over a year, hope having the bairn hasn’t stopped you!
I'm still around. I sacked off YouTube as no-one other than you was watching them (sorry). Then when Simpsybairn came along I wasn't prepared to put as much time into it. So I haven't posted on Instagram for ages and am taking a break from my coach. I'm doing 531bbb (boring but big) at the moment, but have had a little while off due to holiday and then a sickness bug going through the five of us - not pleasant! I'm scheduled to restart tomorrow and will do a deload week to help me get back into it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to ask, hope your training is going well.

Good to hear you’re still on it, I enjoyed them mate mostly as I like to see what normal people are doing rather than jacked up pros pushing massive weights about, I can relate a lot more to what you’re doing than them.

Training is going really well thanks, 4 days a week usually, although I’m giving myself today off to rest my back a bit, as I’ve really felt it this week. Also been bad for 4 weeks which I’ve trained through but think I’m almost through the other side of that now.

Went out with the wife last night and put a shirt on that I couldn’t get buttoned around my gut a few months ago, another upside of the training!

Squat up to 67.5 today and Push Press at 50kg, can't quite believe it from where I was 3 months ago. Squat technique is way better than I've ever had it too - better depth, better control. Think the biggest thing when I look back is really focusing on my bracing which is due to the coach I have making me do that. Plus he's pushing me when he knows I have more in the tank - I'd probably have backed off my squat after today but he's giving me confidence to go on. Absolutely loving it.

My lifts are getting quite heavy now (for me) and I'm starting to feel a little faint during a workout. Had to stop my deadlift session earlier in the week because I felt like I was going to keel over mid set.

Any tips on how to overcome this? Or is it just part and parcel of lifting heavy?

Correct breathing and bracing.
Some good tips here:

Been really struggling with bench press, but finally ready to break through 65kg for 8 it flew up today whereas I’ve been on the edge for the last couple of reps previously.

By far my shittest lift, a lot more work needed to get on a level with the other two.

Goal is body weight for 8 reps, but can see that taking a long time to get to.

Sorry if wrong thread but I’ve got myself fit for first time in my life by running and feeling good now

My friend has lent me 2 like dumbell weights

Has anyone got any recommendations for a basic routine I can do every day. As basic as you can? I know this stuff will be obvious but I’m so weak never lifted anything in my life at all. No fat but no muscle!

You can’t go wrong with a bit of Jeff.

Managed to sort out the lightheadedness by giving myself a little more recovery time between warm up sets. The bending over to load the weight was contributing to it. Made good progress since.

Sessions are very tough now. All 5x5:

Squat - 130kg
Overhead press - 57.5kg
Deadlifts - 140kg
Bench - 80kg
Barbell row - 72.5kg.

Feel as though I will be able to push my bench more than the others. The rest of them are close to being maxed out.

Finished up this block and a couple of weeks of deload coming up. Really chuffed with how the last 12 weeks have gone - I hadn't lifted properly in a good few years and wanted to give it some proper attention again. Still loads to go and my numbers aren't much kop for most folk but I'm chuffed with them.
Squat 77.5kg
OHP 52.5kg
DL 125kg
Bench 62.5kg
Row 62.5kg

Best I've felt in the gym for so long, but I'm ready mentally for a deload

Some good numbers there, you could do a lot more on squat looking at that. Focus on form and your squat will fly above 100 in no time.

I’ve employed a coach. Feeling aches and pains more than ever as I get older so he’s set me out a bodybuilding style hypertrophy plan utilising all the weird and womderful machines ultraflex has to offer
Best thing I've done is be coached for the last 13 weeks. What a difference it has made, never enjoyed my training as much. Good luck man!

New pb on Friday, 150kg for 8, not going any heavier until I improve my form and consolidate, then gonna push towards my longer term goal of 2xbw.
Class that man
