General Motorsport Thread

Well worth doing mate.

There is a lot of sitting around not riding though.

They all tend to do the same - guided laps behind an instructor. Short sessions with breaks and debriefing

Then an instructor follows you and watches your lines, debrief again.

Finally you get to go for it, sort of. The don’t tolerate racing though.

I thought I got my bike over on the road but after being on the track you learn loads. My aim was to get my knee down, by the end of the session I was lifting my knee up to get the bike down more!

I have some photos somewhere I will see if I can find them.

I would recommend using their bikes if you can for the obvious reasons.
Sounds exactly what im after tbh. Would love to see them Jeff, pm if you don't want to post on here marra.👍

Incredible to think both Colin Turkington and Yorkshireman Dan Lloyd who were both in a big accident just 2 weeks ago in Oulton Park were possibly the two best drivers on the day yesterday.

Both their cars - the BMW 330e of Colin’s Team BMW/WSR had to be rebuilt and Lloyds Bristol Street Motors with Excelr8 TradePriceCars.com Hyundai i30 had severe damage. Yet whilst Dan took top honours in both races 1 & 2 Colin held on to 2nd in race 1 and took 3rd in race 2. Although Turks’ finished a place lower than he started in both.

Can you imagine what would be said if the accident was in F1 and it happened to Max and Lewis? It would all be about Toto and Christian having a go at each other in another blame game. But in the BTCC the teams and drivers just get on with it.

Team BMW meanwhile got a big 4th (Steven Jelley), 5th (Jake Hill) and 6th (Colin Turkington) which is a big step toward the Manufacturers Championship and possibly Teams Championship. Well done guys.

My mates took some stills but a lot were out of focus or not pin sharp but there was a pro photographer there as well and he got some good ones.

I will have a hunt around and see if I can find them.

If you do it please don’t be tempted to look for ones with big bikes. I’ve had loads of super bikes on the road but did most of my track days on CBR400s or CBR600s. Plenty fast enough to scare yourself.

And don’t take your own bike.

Edit - I will not get a chance to look for photos until the weekend

Finally, the bellend has come first for once…

Obvs he was first in the f1 bellend stakes too…
.

Speaking of bellends… William Storey at it again (thank god the bullet was dodged on wearside):

Belgian GT team W Racing Team (or WRT for short has been synonymous with running a huge team of Audi R8’s since it’s inception in 2009.

They won the Blancpain Endurance Series/GT World Challenge Teams Championship in 2011, 2012 & 2024 (which it also won the drivers championship), as well as 2015 & 2021.

They won the FIA GT Series/Blancpain Sprint Series/Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup/Fanatec GT World Challenge Sprint Cup Drivers Championship from 2013 to 2021 and it’s Teams Championship in 2913, 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021.

They now however in a shock move they are leaving to run the new LMH BMW Hypercar in the WEC. Team RLL will run the car in LMDH spec in the IMSA Series. They have success in the LMP2 level winning last years LMP2 titles in both WEC and ELMS but never seen the top class in sportscar racing.

I wish them well.

Not going but I would like Fabio Quartararo to win.
Obviously he made that mistake in Assen which let Aleix back into the championship fight but this year Quartararo's clearly established himself as being the best rider on the grid by some distance at the minute. Would have loved to have seen how he'd have fared against a peak Marquez.

Been another superb WSBK season as well.

I think MM is a bit more ruthless than Fabio.

But my take is Mark should retire, his injuries are way too serious to keep racing.

I’ve not seen Race 3 of the BTCC weekend at Thruxton but incredible to think the finale is heading for a massive 4 way fight for the title.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton scored a win to put him LEVEL on points with leader Colin Turkington. Tom Ingram and Jake Hill in 3rd and 4th on the same points too and -10 behind the top two. Ash wins so must in the reverse grid draw to see who between 6th and 12th is on pole draws 11 so 11th placed Steven Jelley (teammate of Turkington) is on pole whilst Turkington who was 10th is 2nd. Crazy!

In sad news at the weekend TOCA announced that Ginetta will be leaving the package for the support series in the British GTs. We won’t get to see the Junior Championship or the GT series. Fair move in hindsight. It will get better coverage in front of the GT community who I think they will need to ultimately impress. But TOCA made Ginetta. Ginetta didn’t make TOCA.

I refer to the repeated posts that the smug, arrogant, conceited John Smith UK made on F1 thread about this one. There are few things in my life I cherish as much as my tread. I’m extremely proud of it. I defend it like it was my own life. I don’t take kindly, and in fact I am greatly insulted and offended, by posts like his.
