I also don’t understand why everyone outside of the south stand and SWC is allergic to singing.

We must be one of the only grounds in the whole country where 3/4 of the ground flat out refuse to create any noise.

Forget all the flags, banners, surfers & placards, if the rest of the ground sang a few songs the place would be electric.
Not only do they seem allergic to singing they are the first ones to complain if they think THE SS SWC aren't singing enough.
The amount of posts on here you see saying "couldn't hear from the North stand"... f***ing sing in the North stand then ffs

I agree to an extent but 12 o’clock kick off on a Sunday morning is always going to be flat unless it’s a derby match.

If we’d have been chose for the Friday night match the atmosphere would have been ten times better.

It would be better, but the point is still valid. When was the last time the north west corner or the east stand started a songB

Ah mate it grips my shit. We’re trying to create something and a small minority complain. The atmosphere in the south stand is always class, therefore logic dictates those complaining are from elsewhere.

Very much this. The only song people get behind is “by far the greatest team” which sounds great in full voice. Imagine if the rest of the fans helped us in the SS/SWC

I’m not sure what the answer is. If someone wants to set up another group in the north stand then they’re more than welcome😂

Clearly not every match is going to be like yesterday but it looked class.

We should and do applaud the efforts with the flags et all in the south stand.

All the negative qwerty types who probably dont go should have a tug or something.

Whinging f***ers.
For the first time in over a decade we have not only a club that allows the fans to do displays like this but also a fan base that is willing to get behind it.
Im sure I’m not alone in feeling there is a rebirth in this beautiful club of ours. And that isn’t salmon pants or ‘another generic manager/loan player’. We have a team that we all realise aren’t championship standard let alone premier league but there is an obvious team spirit. And that team are prepared to put in a shift for each other circa 97/98.
Ive never been so proud or passionate about the lads as I am at the moment since perhaps when quinny came in.
Today was flat as a pancake atmosphere wise but the displays were awesome. First game of the season, mid day kick off, and yet when the displays went up the whole place was at worst intrigued but at best mainly in awe.
we’re all on a buzz after Wembley but, as we realise, we will struggle this season and staying up is a priority in what will be probably a pretty ugly season. If flags and displays help the club and fans create ANYTHING it could get us over the finish line next may.
Absolute credit to everyone involved.
Good post Gringo. (Although I would have preferred the absence of the unnecessary language on the first row. It's a personal preference that others may disagree with).
Our wonderful club is coming back to life at last and that is a huge event in a city like Sunderland where it's citizens regard SAFC as being a limb of the overall city. That has always been a strength of both city and club.

A small BUT first. There is another thread alongside this one that is harsh, bitter, full of conflict and anger, peppered with nonsense and doing no good to this opportunity. We would all be better off without it. Mods?

Yesterday's display was short but good. The timetable of the match and the weather was an obstacle but it seemed to please most of us (with the odd inevitable moan from fans near me in the ground). The lads who did the work and managed the funding deserve applause for a short but good show. I imagine that they will adjust and improve as the season continues.

I agree that this will be a tough season for us, but I feel that Alex is a quick learner and if the club provides the players and other resources required he will win through and by the end of the season we will all, excluding the long term moaners, be happy.

The atmosphere yesterday was muted as you say. Particularly so in the second half. I am not surprised, there is no magic switch to convert an incomplete and effectively new squad into a gleaming machine in an instant. It will come. When . . .
* The club continues to support Alex.
* The fans continue to support the players. Some need to stop bleating incessantly and often visciously about individual players, many of whom are young, new and learning.
* The club has already built an interface with fans. This is great. Long may it live
* The club carries out at least the basic improvements within the stadium to make its resources usable by customers/fans.
** They notified us all in advance that yesterday's crowd would be at least 40,000. The toilets, corridors, awful bars and terrible food counters were largely inaccessible.
** Ticket Office. The ticket staff are great, the office management is a shambles. No presence in the city centre or Washinton. £££ for the club.
** The shop. What shop? Rubbish products, seldom open, it needs a complete rethink. One can buy a Newcastle shirt in Sunderland, but not a Sunderland shirt. £££ for the club.
** Low price travel within Tyne and Wear to and from matches. An obvious step. Less cars and shorter queues on the road, family and solo travel on public transport, more season tickets sold. £££ for the club.
** Scrap the appalling Web site and build an appropriate one. Hopefully scrapping Ticketmaster and including that and the shop's functionality, Performance Analysis, Marketing, Business intelligence, finance etc within a far more appropriate solution. Effectively ERP for a Football Club. There are countless versatile solutions that offer it. The club currently gives the appearance of a badly managed corner shop.

All just as a start. Lots of work. The sooner it starts, the sooner it is achieved.

I don't know if it's because people don't know the words? When I've sat opposite the south stand it can be really hard to make out what the actual words are due to the acoustics of the ground.

People seem to know red white army (if its sang slower) by far the greatest team, wise me say and maybe one other. By the time the noise gets to the other side of the ground the chants finished and you end up singing on your own. I know people will hate this but I remember pompy having like 2 songs at Wembley but everyone knew them. Maybe instead of trying all these new chants nobody knows all the time, qe could tried to be more exclusive and sing the well known ones more often?

We’re going to get some videos of the songs, subtitle them and stick them on YouTube so people can learn them.

The song book is pretty small. Ross Stewart, Patrick roberts then it’s the standard ones.

If the organisers are happy to keep doing them, putting their own personal time and effort into it, I don't see how it's any skin off the average fan's nose to hold a piece of f***ing card up for 2 minutes before KO like. Crack on.

Also, did this really warrant a thread of it's own with such a drastic thread title? It's very bad crack and disrespectful to the lads that have done such a fantastic job.
Should do them every game as it looks mint and adds to the atmosphere.
This, I mean whilst that is probably unrealistic, the more the better. The more experience they get the displays will likely improve as well. Not that they need improving, they look tremendous.

Would be class to have a good one on Boxing Day.

Now that's a good idea

Coventry fans seem largely like absolute ***** but they had a reasonably varied songbook for such a piddly, averagely supported club
