Callum Doyle

Aye, got sent off for one of the most ridiculous tackles I've seen for us and barely played again after iirc.

Good on the ball and will carry it well but he was way off it defensively. Would step out all the time and get turned and is poor in the air either from crosses or long balls. We ended up playing 3 at the back so we had extra cover for him even though our squad wasn't really built for that. Tom Flanagan, who we shipped to Shrewsbury in Jan was better than him in every metric at the time he left, and in the end Doyle got dropped despite only having two fit CB's (one one of them were in and out the team due to fitness so we had a CM/RB play CB and a LB at CB ahead of him.

It was just way, way too early in his career. There were many who thought he should be playing but the justification was because he was young and had potential, rather than that he was better than what we had which of course is no good to us when he isn't our player.
At the time I was screaming that it wasn't that bad of a tackle by Clarke Salter...got home and saw the replay and just laughed :)
It would appear from the comments up til’ now that the jury is out on young Callum, there is obviously a player in there who maybe lost his way a bit as the season progressed.
We play a back three along with wingbacks and as we have an established 3 still at the club Callum may possibly not be a starter. I believe he’s been signed to replace Jake Clarke-Salter who was excellent for us last season but unfortunately has moved on to QPR.
Honestly mate at first I loved him, has a great pass on him and would take people on with no fear from the back. Over time his lack of pace and aerial strength got more and more clear, positioning can be a bit iffy too but next to a leader and not played every game I think he'll do well

I was sat in the middle of the East stand so it was right in front of me. Couldn't believe it. It was on par with Ashley Fletcher in the same season (v Villa) jumping up unchallenged to head a ball that had been kicked vertically up in the air and was dropping on his head, missing it, waiting for it to drop after it bounced back up again in pretty much the same spot and missing it again.

Didn’t he come back from his ban and get sent off for 2 absolutely stupid bookings? The second booking was one of the stupidest things I’ve seen on a pitch if I remember correctly. That Fletcher “header” was proper comical!!

Better memory than me. Just checked and aye, next game back v Preston he got two yellows. Came on 3 times as sub after that and was never seen again.

Sure the second booking was a player went by him on the half way line, maybe in his own half. Still had half the pitch to run and we still had a number of players behind the ball. No danger at all and he pulled him back.

Congratulations to Coventry, in 'beating us' to signing a player, that we in all likelihood weren't even interested in re-signing.
His limited game time for us, since AN took over as manager, is probably a good indication that AN didn't see him being regular 1st team starter for us.

I've nowt against the lad, and wish him well for the future, and hopefully, he'll gradually improve as a player and go on to have a good career in football.

Think he’s got a bright future ahead of him however happy we haven’t decided to get him for another season. Personally I don’t think he’s championship quality. He was overplayed under LJ and Neil probably hasn’t seen much of him but he (at the moment) isn’t very physical and very slow, both pace and reactions

Doyle is definitely a decent player but probably not for sale . We’ve brought in a more experienced player for a fraction of the price in Ballard .

It’s time for us to see how good our players are and let them develop as opposed to getting players on loan we have zero chance of buying .
