Jack Clarke - Signed

Name the 73 cup final team, who scored the other the goal against Newcastle in the 4-1 Gary Rowell hat trick game and who crossed it, who scored the goal of the season for Blackpool against us on MOTD against Monty , what was the score in promotion year when we beat West Ham after they won the cup, who scored the goals in the 2nd leg against Chelsea, I can answer because I was at all those games, cheers @rocky 😜
Both you and Ghfd need to grow up. Stop sounding like petty teenagers trying to out do each other .... your petty squabbling is boring and should be limited to pm's. No one else cares less

Nee way. 2m for a championship match winner in 50% of games is a bargain.

It's a stretch to say he is a match winner in the championship 50% of the time, especially considering he's never played in that league. For arguments sake let's say you're correct, this is a lad who had never managed to play half a seasons worth of games. Let's say he manages half a season this time, that means he's now down to winning 25% of games if you're lucky he can actually win 50% of games played in a league he's never played in before

Thought this thread was about Clarkey ffs.

Of the three players we were expecting to re-sign, I'll be honest and say that Clarke was the one I was least fussed about it. I don't think he was that great for us in League One. That's not to say that he won't be very good for us in the Championship; he's clearly very talented, has loads of pace, is well able to dribble.

But I wasn't surprised when he was benched for the play-off final, even after being so good in Hillsborough, and I just thought spending a hefty transfer fee on a player who isn't a 100% guaranteed starter seemed unlikely. But Neil obviously likes him and that is encouraging. The money is obviously for the potential he has too. I think he had lots of games where he was very frustrating, and arguably was better coming on from the bench against tiring defences. But if he can be coached to improve his efficiency, even get a few more shots away when cutting in, then we'll have a very decent player on our hands.

This place man, 'I hope we show ambition and spend money' then when we do spend money 'hmm not sure about that fee' I reckon the current owners probably have an idea about what we can and cannot spend and probably intend to spend a bit more.

Ha'way Jack.
I agree. The number of ‘experts’ on here who think that they are able to refine a transfer fee down to an exact and precise amount is ridiculous.

“I wouldn’t pay £3m for player X; £2.467,722 would be the absolute maximum”.

“We should only sign player Z on a loan, but insist upon a ‘right to buy’ clause at a fixed fee.” Even if the parent club isn’t interested in such an arrangement.

Whilst I understand the desire for SAFC to avoid ‘having their eyes taken out’, having previously witnessed players and clubs taking advantage of the club’s desperation, there needs to be an understanding that circumstances and personnel change and it appears that we are operating by a different set of rules now, with people who know what they are doing.

Think it is interesting that folk have an opinion on a players intrinsic value and a valid topic for discussion.

The flip side of the coin is you will have folk saying its not their money so they don't care and then complain when we don't sign another player. We have a budget and folk are hoping it is used wisely, which in my opinion they're, some may disagree.

I can’t stand these threads that run for months as recent developments seem to get buried.

Do we have an idea of what the fee / clauses are likely to be? I honestly thought he’d be at the top end of our price range at best.

they can spend as much or as little as they need to as long as they get quality and value for money
Can they though ?

Is there any Football League limitations on clubs’ transfer expenditures and salary spend, which have to be observed to avoid points deduction ?

I know that Fulham spent big last year and were fortunate to get promoted, but what happens if a club spends big but falls short of promotion ?

Incidentally, I’m really glad that we’ve seemingly signed Clarke. He’s a good player, with the right attitude and he obviously ‘fits in’. Additionally, he may have a point to prove as extra motivation.
People forget this kid is 21 hasnt had a proper pre season for god knows how long loaned here and there and so far hast kicked on but he’s 21!!! Now he’s got a home with a manager players seem to love with fans who will love him as he’s that type of player who gets you off your seat I don’t think there will be many better signings this season in this league bar roberts maybe !!!
Wasn’t he permitted to participate in Spurs pre-season preparations ? Or is SAFC the only club to have them ?

I’m sure that I’ve read that other clubs do some pre-season work. Could be wrong, of course.

He was benched as AN said tactically the space was going to be in front of the fullback not behind, hence he picked Embleton. When Wycombe had to push forward he brought Clarke on to stretch them. Its not just about picking the same 11. His signing adds to our ability to change ways of playing, it’s a great signing.

Mickey somebody. 2-0, west and Walker , was it Alan brown? Can’t remember offhand but did you shout Howay the lads ?
Wayne Entwhistle, and The cross from The Lord Rowell, I was there

Was the word ‘can’t’ spelled correctly ? No, it wasn’t.

Without the apostrophe, the term becomes an entirely different word, ‘cant’, meaning - ‘hypocritical and sanctimonious talk’.

Couldn't agree more. As others have pointed out, he was indeed good at Hillsborough. But he played a fair few others games where he was pretty anonymous.

It's a huge fee for present championship standards. Let's hope it's not a huge fee for us and our budget though.
Would they be the games he played at LWB?
I’ve supported Sunderland since I was 2, I am nearly 60 you even been to Roker Park
No disrespect but how could you support Sunderland from 2? I’ve got a near 2 year old and he doesn’t know his arse from his elbow
