Jack Clarke - Signed

Do you really think a player from spurs who they’ve invested a lot of money in, who has championship experience, touted as the next big thing 18 months ago should cost the same as a lad who’s played league one and been relegated to league 2 who plays for Wimbledon?

Big fee or not the profile couldn’t be further away.
I don’t think they should or would cost the same, just that a 12 goal midfielder with huge potential might be better value than a 3.5m player that, for the most part, hasn’t lived up to the hype.
I like Clarke and hope we sign him. Even at 3.5m I think there’s a decent chance he’d be good value but it’s a big fee for us.

You said 3m is the bulk of it. On that basis you obviously have inside knowledge as to what it is. Or were you just talking nonsense?

Talking nonesense? No just expressing an opinion. Are you
Spoiling for an argument?
Read my posts back to the beginning.

I intimated we are probably on a limited budget and won't be spending big and if thats the case shouldn't be spending a canny wedge on Jack Clark. (I like him by the way) We need to strengthen the CF position first and foremost.

I never once suggested I know budgets etc 🤔

3.5 million still seems a heck of a lot of money for the lad, yet I remember the times we would throw fees like that around like confetti...how times change.

I suppose, if that fee is right, then it shows that we have a very decent budget to play with when you take into account what Ballard will have cost and the bids for Rudioni and Clarke. Theres also still a bit of strengthening required even of those last two mentioned are brought in.

Seems positive news when you think about it.

For me anything less than 5 million on Clarke Is a cracking deal so much potential

I was concerned about budgets, but as I just mentioned, if the club are happy to bid that for him whilst we're still short on players, that can only be looked at as a good thing.

I like the lad, especially towards the end of the season when you could tell he was getting into his stride of playing regular football, I just worried that we'd spend too much on him and leave the squad short, but I doubt that would happen now. It actually looks like we'll pay the money if the player fits the model.

I really like Clarke but feel that a fee of £3.5mil is high given that Twine has just gone for around that and he was the player of the year in the same league. It feels like Spurs are the ones that overpaid in the first instance and that’s being passed on to us. That said I’d be pleased if we got him, he’s a talented lad.

Yes but if Spurs paid £10m and then we paid £3.5m that can hardly be described as Spurs passing their overpayment onto us.

Regardless, £3.5m would be structured and not all up front.

I don’t get how you can’t see 1m on a league one player that is now in league 2 is better value than Jack Clarke. They’re not in the same calibre of player at all.

Got to remember clarke was only with us from Janauary 26th and had to gel with the squad. He was only being brought on as a sub but once he started getting games he was showing his talent. He will only get better imo and Alex Neil will get the best of him I am sure. A great signing if we can get a deal sorted. We are recruiting very shrewdly. Great to see this approach from what we have been doing in the past. I like Kyril's philosophy.

He came into a brand new team in January and not match fit. You might as well compare him to Harry Kane

That would be a better arrangement with the bulk of the cash being add ons. I believe that Clarke has played in the league before (allbeit at a couple of years ago) and he wasn’t setting that league alight.

I think he’s a good player though and would like to see him sign, hopefully they don’t have our pants down on the fee
