Kalvin Phillips signing for Manchester City

Versatile as in shit, aye.

Nah he’s not shit really, but he’s not half as good as the media make out. Just like Harry Maguire as I said earlier.
Hes overrated because he's played in an England team with a back 3 and 2 defensive midfielders.

Let's see how he does as the only defensive midfielder and everybody else flying forward.

Pretty sure Man City have got decent scouts haven’t they? You’d think they’d be able to look at his games for Leeds as well and work all this out

Of course but they still signed ake for tens of millions who was never good enough.

Phillips isn't a bad player, just don't think he's a Champions League winning addition. He's there because it's a position they're short in and he's homegrown, exactly the same as Ake. If he was French, he wouldnt be getting signed.

IMHO sometimes you dont need a great or fantastic player. sometimes you need a player that does the basic things well and consistently.

One that can be relied upon, to be in the right place at the right time.

Interesting point this, relied upon and right place etc.

He missed half last season and missed 9/10 games of it the season before. Seems to pick up a little of injuries for a reliable player.

I am not saying he is that player, but thinking the level of player other posters are saying that man city should be signing.
Pep obviously sees something in him, unless it is a hoovering up situation.
picking up injuries is only one part of a reliable player

Hes a good player, definitely does a solid job screening the defence.

I'm not sure hes exactly Fernandinho's replacement but tasked with winning the ball back and passing to more creative players he'll be absolutely fine. My concern would be not getting enough game time affecting his England career.

And its a home grown quota for City too.

Yes fair play. Perhaps they see it as freeing players like Rodri or Gundogan (who are another level up for me) to focus on winning the CL. Phillips will be enough in their team to beat most premiership teams
