Couples who don’t have kids.

I'm so childless that I hate the notion out there of friends of a couple with a baby can become an "aunt" and "uncle". Piss off, I have no connection to that child just because I know you.

Pretty negative outlook that mind. I bet you'll have had loads of friend of family uncles/aunties

Nope. Just actual aunts and unlces by blood & by marriage to that blood. My wife has some that are just friends of the parents. I see it as mental. Aunts and Uncles are actual things. Sibling or sibling-in-law to parents.

Yup, also pinoy culture Ate 👍 respectful term 👍

Believe it or not, I found that out from Gok Wan
I have been referred to as uncle to my friends' kids, but none of my kids refer to anyone as uncle and aunt except for if they are.

Each to their own I guess.

Aye fair enough. Horses for courses.
It's interesting that depending on who it is, Mrs K gets "Auntie" from friends kids, but I just get my name most of the time!

If your childs actual aunt is a bitch, yet the woman two doors down always has time for your kid, then that's their aunt...you cannot class people by closeness of genetics, only by the love they give.

I think the auntie thing for dinner ladies still happens in some schools. Thankfully not say my kids' school though.

I remember when I was really little going to (I think) Spectrum Leisure Centre and there was a soft play or something. Anywho we were all in there doing what we're doing this random woman - who must have worked there - (I hope!) said something like.
"Now boys and girls, you can call me Auntie Joan" and I thought "Hmm. No. I have an Auntie Joan, and you're not her".

Aunt/uncle has a specific meaning though. My kids haven't seen two of their aunts and uncles ever but it's their title.

I don't see anything wrong with calling a close family friend that either really though, I just don't do it.

Did you not have to call the dinner ladies aunty whatever?

I'm having to go back to 1996 and previous to think about that. I don't think we did. Although I knew one of them as she was friends with my great-aunties.
