Living on £1 per day

What you going to eat for a quid a day?
Some munter from the blandford
Being a bit skint I've decided to see if I can live on £1 per day for food and drink. I'm going to still eat what I have in the house, what I can grow, or forage.

Hopefully I'll last more than a week before I order a takeaway.Is

Does that £1 a day solely on ingredients and not taking into account gas, electricity, fuel & time

I’ve seen loads on the 401, you’ll likely have taken that way unless you went via Ottawa.

Dusk and dawn are the dangerous times with them, you won’t see them until the last minute, they know their predators try and avoid the roads too so it’s generally. Time of the year matters also
Yeah I went via Ottawa. I stayed there for a few days.

Oh yeah. I've got kids. I'm not going to starve or deprive them. My ex offered to buy me fish and chips when she was getting some for her and my son yesterday but I didn't take her up on it.

Purely just allowing myself £1 per day to buy or produce whatever food I need. I can use whatever is already in the house but nothing new that comes in. If my kids eat anything from the original stuff it's gone.

I'm not really going to count the first week until the normal consumables like bread, butter, milk, cheese etc are gone. I bought a 4 pint carton of milk yesterday, but I won't touch it. I got a one pint carton for myself from the reduced Isle out of my budget and I'll use that.

Aldi give leftover stuff to foodbanks.
There's a charity down here called the felix project I do some stuff for. They get sent a load of out of date gear cook massive batches and distribute it to kids who don't get fed correctly.

So simple and so impactful

M and s used to spray blue dye on their end of day food when I worked there as a summer job. Thankfully that has changed and all this excess food is being put to good use

That sounds a good project. The soup kitchen got donated a huge amount of dried cherries to make things with from a factory and they couldn't use them because they were in unmarked bags with no label or date.

I got 2 5kg bags from someone who worked there and made a batch of wine. Looks like I'll be doing some baking

On that topic have you got a dehydrator ? .there's one on my ninja foodi but I've never used it yet . Makes jerky apparently .

Milk is the bugger in our house. The little buggers go through about 3 pints a day
Mine too. I've obviously bought stuff like milk for the kids but I won't touch it. I got a reduced pint of milk last night for 34p.

Would have to be wood pidgin or rabbit jerky. I can't afford beef on a quid a day :D

night-time raid on a few tattie fields, a bit of forgetting to scan stuff on the self service checkouts and the old just eat refund button and itll be pish
As long as they're not my tatties I'm growing
Standing charge for gas/elec is about 80p/day. That's before even using anything.
Glad I've got solar panels now.
Roast it in nice big slices . Lots of peeper over it and a drizzle of oil Don't know last time I boiled a cauli
I decided to make a roast cauliflower, onion and garlic soup. Used a little bit of cream left over, a couple of stock cubes and some seasonal. Roasting the veg was a game changer for taste.

I was quite interested to see if it can be done and so done some "research", going off the Aldi website.

0.5 kilo parsnips - 39p
2.5 kilo wonky potatoes - 89p
0.5 bag carrots & swede - 39p
beef stock cubes(12) - 47p
1 kilo wonky onions - 49p

0.5 kilo penne pasta - 32p
2 x tins chopped tomatoes - 56p

2x tins baked beans - 44p
6 eggs - 69p

500g tub buttery spread - 85p
3 x white loaf - £1.08p
stawberry jam - 31p

6.88p will get you dinners, a basic stew 3 days?, pasta and sauce 2 days, egg, chips beans 2 days and breakfast egg/beans/jam on toast.

Not exactly top quisine, but doable.

It's imagination you need. I've spent £1.65 over the last 3 days.
