Living on £1 per day

Sainsbury's tonight, not the cheapest place.
Full priced:
4 tins of baked beans 4 x 21p = 84p.
250g butter £1.75
400g Mature Cheddar cheese £2.25
2.5kg potatoes £0.95

Reduced price
Large loaf of Warburton's toastie bread 29p.
300g vine tomatoes 20p

Total cost £6.28. That's 72p left over.
That lot would feed me for more than a week.
Beans on toast, baked potatoes, cheese and tomato sandwiches, cheese on toast, and if I stocked up on lard for a month using the 4x72p to buy 7 blocks of lard at 39p, I could have chips every day.

Today I think I've probably had under a quid... so far. Some grated cheese between 2 lettuce leaves x 2 at around 2ish, and some mince and homegrown herbs for tea? Ifs got to be around the mark surely 😊
What an odd diet that is.

The food was exactly as you’ve described?
Seemingly food banks are finding fewer people are taking dried food (pasta, rice, etc) because they can't afford to cook it.
No way?

No. It’s not. And don’t let wankers like Lee Anderson tell you it is
It’s possible, it you’d have rice and water for every meal :lol:

If it was just to survive a week until pay day it’s possible. Wouldn’t not be a good idea at all if you were doing it to save for a house etc
Nowt wrong with just drinking water. It's healthy & pretty much all I drink (with meals in the house when I'm not supping beer)
I knew a lad who spent 2 weeks a year water fasting. He’d drop a lot of weight but he even admitted it takes him a few days to get his strength back.

I’ve read people do it for 3 weeks a year. Madness

Why would you have to live on rice? Plenty of other stuff just as cheap. The only thing making it difficult is someone's lack of imagination.
I don't think the OP could survive on a buck 60 here (quid equivalent roughly).
I don't know. I'd supplement my diet with the odd moose.
