Golf 2022

Wedge Advice

Got my first set of new clubs earlier in the year (HC of 21) and it includes a PW @ 42 degree and GW @ 47.5 degree.

I know I'll need extra loft in the bag to avoid playing too many half swings and to help around the green but does anyone have any advice for what sort of lofts I should be looking at for a couple of additional wedges to make life a bit easier?

Cheers

52 and a 56. I’d personally have the 56 without a lot of bounce - so you can loft and stop the ball

That shows how clubs have changed over the years and logs have been massively strengthened. My pw is 48 and my gw is 52.

Guy I played with yesterday was playing with a 'hummingbird' that has a 70 degree loft. Hitting them out of the sand and close to the green at a decent pelt and they were just landing dead.... Might look to get one for myself... but the angle is insane

I have a 60 and a 64. Feel more confident full swing. Once I got my distance down on the track man one of favourite shots/clubs

Yeah they are strong. I think mine are 45 and 50. I have a 54 and 60 to make up the wedges. Not that I can use them. Played on Saturday with somebody off +2, which is always quite intimidating but I did ok on the front half, 5 over through 9 so about on my handicap. Get to the tenth tee, shank one into the beck, reload hit a solid shot but into the green side bunker, took me 3 to get out, decent two putt for an 8. 5 shots gone in one hole.

So I am getting closer to 90 with every round... Gone from 120 when I started three or so months ago to 93-96 average over the last four or five rounds. My putting is saving me as my chips to the green are just awful. Also starting to get to grips with my hybrid clubs, and was even able to his 3 wood off a fairway at the weekend.

Highlight and lowlight at the same hole on Sunday.... Drove the par 5 in two and had an eagle opportunity, then went on to three put for par... While par would normally be a big achievement for me, it was disappointing. Still played well Sunday with a 93 which included a birdie and three pars in total.

Now I am trying to work out how to rent a set of clubs, sneak in a round of golf while the wife sleeps when on vacation in Sarasota this week.

Just book an early tee time , tell her that you’ll be back early afternoon as you’re playing golf all morning , are you a man or a mouse ?
