Archie Battersbee Case

It's a real tragedy for the family, but I can only see one outcome.

Family are at the High Court today to appeal the decision.

"In a written ruling, the judge concluded Archie died at noon on 31 May based on MRI scans that day."
Other tests have since shown parts of his brain are already showing signs of necrosis. They've been given the legal power to cease life support, but I'm not sure when they will/can action that.
I'd guess after they've heard the appeal, but I don't know.

I wouldn't want to be in this situation and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The sad fact is their lad has gone - he won't be the lad he was, and it's likely he won't survive as he's being kept alive with machines, but he's still there.
He's in a kind of awful limbo. They all are.

Can't say I'm surprised to see an organisation like Christian Legal Centre sticking their oar in.

Absolutely horrific situation for especially the parents, I can't imagine the pain they're going through bless them.
I will say though that he's there in body but the medical professionals obviously see little sign of improvement or the ability to resume any kind of quality of life .
Letting the bairn go is going to be heartbreaking and I would hate to be in the position they're all in

Horrible situation and a parent's worst nightmare

I can understand why they are pressing on but sadly its only going to end one way
Impossible for the parents to come to the decision to switch off their child's life support. Their son is alive, well his body is, and they don't want to let him go.

Heartbreaking for everyone. Spare a thought also for the doctors, nurses and the judge who have to make the decision to end a child's life.

My heart goes out to the parents and family but its only the machines keeping him breathing. Awful situation and as heartbreaking as it is he isn't going to come back.

Awful situation no doubt about that, however you have to trust the medical professionals, the poor bairn is gone.

It’s an awful situation to be in, my niece was born prematurely the day before my sisters life support was turned off. Isobel was in neo natal for 3 months there were ups and downs and at times we were really hopeful but ultimately she was just too little.

The doctors were desperate to keep her with us and to keep trying, but it became clear she wasn’t going to live and that she was probably suffering.

The second time they suggested we gave her another 24 hours, my mam reminded them that they’d promised us they wouldn’t let her suffer, they agreed and so, as a family, we made the heartbreaking decision to do what was best for Isobel and not what was best for us. She died two hours after her machine was turned off.

I wouldn’t wish the circumstances or the decisions that need to be made on my worst enemy

I'm not sure I can accurately find the right words for this, but I'm so sorry for your loss.

My sister in law and her husband had a bairn who was born with all sorts of problems, ultimately the life support was switched and he passed away peacefully. It absolutely finished them, I remember going to the funeral with the little white coffin at the front of the church
The priest keep going on about god's will and he's in a better place now. I could have f***ing decked him

Like you say it's not something you'd not wish on your worst enemy.

That sucks. I never really empathise or have emotional feelings one way or the other on forums, but life struggles like this always bring out emotions in me. I don't think you can ever move on but I hope it gets easier for you.
