Harry Kane

Terrible dive. I felt embarrassed for him seeing the replay on TV. It was a great header that smacked the bar leading up to it too so you see the good and the bad of Kane in one move.

As for the dropping deep criticism - it works a treat at Spurs because he has a world-class strike partner in Son to play with. Son is a great finisher with either foot, he is a great dribbler, he is quick and works hard off the ball. There's no one like that for England. Kane can play as a 10 for Spurs but for England he needs to be the number 9 in the box and let the likes of Foden, Grealish and Saka (plus Sancho when he gets into form again) do the playmaking.

Grealish could be a Son type of player if given the freedom, he won't get that kind of freedom from Southgate though.

Agreed. I can't help but think he's being told by Southgate to drop off otherwise he wouldn't. But it makes a lot more sense for him to play within the width of the penalty box and try to generally be the focal point as a "9". As you say, England have plenty of runners off him such as Sterling, Foden, Mount, Grealish, Sancho and Saka.

That said, a few of the players (Grealish and Gallagher from memory) have said that Southgate has told them to "play their natural game" in the matches so perhaps that's why Kane is dropping off as he does for Spurs.

We just need Son to take on British citizenship and FIFA to rewrite the rules and job’s a good un.

He’ll have this season with conte to try and crack it, and after it inevitably goes tits up he’ll move to Bayern next summer.
