No they weren't, who told you that? Legionaries were generally citizens and even auxiliaries were free - Rome wouldn't arm slaves (e.g. Spartacus and all that).
I think you are wrong. I believe foreign soldiers with a certain length of service became citizens of Rome. Happy to be guided to relevant research to show me I've been misled.

Echo this.

Meant everything to me to be there with my Dad. Had a little weep when the second one went in, I was just overwhelmed with it. We were going to win at Wembo after so many tries, we were out of shitty League One and I had me best mate there with me to share it.
It must have been amazing, I wish my dad could have been there with me, however I was wearing his replica 1973top

Nearly 11pm and my phone is suddenly lighting up.

Seems like negotiations have been going on relentlessly and progress made.

It's either mass hysteria or good news for SAFC.

Time to sit back, go to bed and see what tomorrow brings.
You ITK like? Never associated your username with info but hope this is correct.

If you mean the African trade it was initially the Portuguese as they were the first navigators to be able to make sub saharan Africa . All happened after the Ottomans shut down their Slavic slave trade route to Europe apparently.
I hope the Ottomans don't buy us 😄
The Portugese were the first Europeans to take slaves from Africa. However, the arabs had been taking African slaves to Arabia for many hundreds of years prior to that. Slavery itself was rife in Africa, with tribes / nations making war on others and enslaving them. Almost every slave taken from Africa was sold by other Africans.
Britain was instrumental in rejecting the slave trade and abolishing it. Not just throughout the empire but the world.
