Number 5 is a very plausible scenario here I believe. There are many potential scenarios at play here. These are just a few:
- It could be financiers who don’t want to run the club day to day but retain board members and accept KLD and his team running the club. I say this because that is how the shareholding is currently structured with KLD running the club. The return on investment being the driver.
- The club could be restructured through a different holding company.
- It could be that mad Billy is the “rep” for the other parties and that they will be active in the club with a move away from the current operating model.
- The other party is linked to KLD through LDC - this appears doubtful to me as the CFO of LDC already sits on the board of Sunderland.
- The way this has been leaked, it sounds like this is an independent decision of SD and CM and not necessarily with the full agreement of KLD. This could lead to some instability with SD and CM leaving the door open for KLD to make a counter offer, hence the non-exclusive statement.
- Could be a completely different group who have long term ambitions to buy out KLD etc
