So a bloke with his wife and daughter walk into a bar in Amble...

They had to wait 2 years for trial, so what!
Try it and get back to me.
Do we know why it took so long?
It doesn't matter. It did and left them sweating for that period of time.
Perhaps they were all denying it.
Were they?
Perhaps they were delaying the process.
Were they?
Perhaps the Police were incompetent again.
About what?
Obviously we don’t know, or at least I don’t.
None of us do. We only know the write-up and have to go on that.
I have seen elsewhere, again not sure if true, that one had +30 previous convictions but, as none were GBH, managed to avoid jail.
None seemed to be for violence and the violence dished out didn't seem to merit anything other than affray and public order which isn't a nothing but it doesn't necessarily have to offer prison after all of that.
Overall I see this as sending a message. The message is that 4 people attacking someone, regardless of whatever none violent provocation took place, will simply result in a ‘ticking off’.
It's far from a ticking off.
Perhaps you have more insight into the case than I do. If so fair enough.
No more insight than you have.
On what I have read, in my opinion, they should all be in jail.
And that's your opinion and you're welcome to it, as I am.

I believe that the best predictor of the future is the past.
It all depends on what is being predicted.
They will do it again and, in all probability, be given yet another chance simply because they were shitting themselves waiting for trial or because they achieved the incredible task of holding down a job.
They may do it again and they will pay the penalty for it, most likely.
They were given a chance to avoid jail but they were not free from punishment.

All about opinions. I respect yours. On your first point i don't break the law, and certainly would never be involved in such an assault, so unlikely to have the opportunity to try it.
Ultimately they committed the crime. The reasons it took so long to come to court are unknown. That said if they had not behaved like cowardly scum they would not have been forced to wait 2 years to see what punishment they were to receive.
On "what is being predicted" i think you know what i was implying. In my experience the type of person willing to behave in the manner these cowards did will do so again. Some people change, many more don't.
I understand that affray doesn't necessitate a custodial sentence. Affray with 4 attacking 1 deserves more than the norm... in my opinion of course.

Stop trying to defend the indefensible - a family walk into a pub, the parents are the victims of GBH by a group of men, the father may be scarred for life and the child will never forget it.
Just put yourself in the victims shoes or imagine it was one of your kin and their family. TBH you've made yourself out to be a very unpleasant twat.

Went on my mates stag do .. about 25 of us.... to Amble 30 odd years ago.. it was a Friday night… fecking hell on with the locals

Did you go to the Norseman ? Saw some absolutely dreadful fights there with the local Neanderthals taking offence at townies talking to ‘their’ lasses etc. The football thing surprised me tbh , always been a fair number of Sunderland fans around up there , the combo of townie and Sunderland fan must’ve been too much

If guidelines were followed the jails would not only be overflowing, we'd likely have another few dozen built.
Circumstances offer better ways out, as in this case.

Aye, it is a disgrace and those that played their part are punished and fairly.

Why would I need to mention the victim?
This is about those two being punished, which they have been.

The victim escaped relatively unharmed.
Tell you what, go to a pub, get kicked to fuck when you least expect it and let us know if you escape unharmed.
you absolute cretin.

Fuck me man.

I met a fellow Mackem at a party a few years ago and he said he was from Newcastle. Told him I was from Sunderland. Then he comes out with “oh I’m actually from there but most people don’t know where it is”…

Wouldn’t have anything to do with them after that. Genuinely refused to talk to him.

And another belter was “I’m from Carlisle…near Newcastle”. Get fucked man

I suppose they should just say Carlisle near Scotland as it's in the middle of nowhere and 95% of the UK population haven't a clue where it is.

As I remember my mates wife to be had her Hen party in Alnwick just before or after our jaunt to Amble.
Similar thing happened to them with the local Alnwick females.

‘The victim escaped relatively unharmed’.
What an absolutely cretinous statement. Any individual should be able to go into a public house and have a social drink without fear of becoming a ‘victim’. And stop spouting on about sentencing guidelines you absolute armchair barrister. Bet you were a Facebook virology expert a couple of years ago an’all .🙄
