Netflix Hints At Password Sharing Crackdown As Subscribers Fall

This. One of the great attractions of streaming a couple of years ago was that you could bin off an expensive Sky or Virgin subscription and subscribe to Netflix and Prime, iPlayer and channel 4 etc for free, and have most stuff that was streaming. Now though, interesting stuff is split across so many different streamers you're starting to assemble something that looks like a Sky subscription: Netflix and Prime and Disney+, Apple TV+ and Now TV (for Sky Atlantic stuff). I fancied watching The Americans but it's on Disney+ and I can't be chewed to subscribe just for that, ditto Slow Horses on Apple TV+.

I watched and loved The Bureau on Prime, but then the last season of five wasn't on Prime but was on the Sundance channel, which was a separate subscription (and yes, I did the one month and go thing). Going to be really irritating if series get spilt across streaming services to drive new subscriptions.
I found that with arrow tv- a subscription within a subscription as it’s within prime, which is a bit off imo. They’ve just assembled some European dramas and are charging to watch them. I did the same as yourself as I wanted to see the second season of romanzo criminale so we signed up, hammered it over the free first week and then binned it before I got charged.

like anything, soon as becomes too expensive people will bin it and revert to dodgy firesticks
virgin the same with their recent price rises

This is the way to do it. Buy it for a month or two and watch the things you want to, then cancel it when you've caught up
Good shout actually - never thought of doing this, might be one to bear in mind going forward.

They used to have the pick of quirky tv shows and films but as others tried to start their own subscription service they’ve run dry. They’ve tried to provide their own content but even their best shows lack the punch of the original battle tested line-up of Friends etc. Most of their films are poor.

They’ve used algorithms to decide what people would like, setting them down a rabbit hole which I think is what Elon Musk is getting at. They need classics not trends.

Just as this content crisis starts to gain momentum and they lose millions of subscribers they decide to treat their customers like criminals. Not looking good tbf.

Or revert to BitTorrents. I used to download tons of stuff back in the day because UK broadcasts were either months behind the US or never appeared at all. The likes of Netflix changed that with simultaneous worldwide releases but now you need to be paying for a half dozen different "platforms" to get the latest shows then it will be no wonder if people go back to searching the dodgier areas of the internet.

True enough. Could turn out to be a great little tip
Mentioned before, but that's what I do. I have prime on all the time because I get value from the deliveries etc anyway. Other streaming services I just use for a month then cancel. Normally cancel as soon as I sign up in case I forget later. I joined Netflix to watch squid game then cancelled. At some point I'll rejoin to see the next series of cobra kai (but I'm not too bothered about it so haven't done so yet, will wait until there's another series I want to see as well). I'll get Disney back at some point a different month to watch the walking dead then cancel it again as well.

Its amazing, you stay off a service for about a year, come back, and there's not as much new stuff as you'd expect. Watch the show I joined for, then see what else there is for a couple of weeks and try again a year later! That's where all of them fail for me, except Prime, they simply don't have enough to keep you with them long term

Netflix the buggers though, dunno when they started to categorise certain series as ‘limited’ and how long they’re available but some of the ones I’ve enjoyed most have fell into that bracket and I suppose fear of missing out might ultimately hit me as I don’t routinely check what’s up and coming on there.

I am leaning towards getting shot of it after Stranger Things 4 and then maybe getting it back in the run up to Halloween as they tend to offer a few original horror films.

Limited in that sense just means its a one off series not that its only going to be on netflix for a limited amount of time.
