Cutting the Grass

New turf down this weekend how often and how much should I water it know can’t be on it for 4 weeks also should I cut it at the 4 week mark or wait a tad longer cheers.

whoever laid the turf should advise you about watering, but I've had a couple laid before. Put a sprinkler on it for 1hr a day, every day (unless we have torrential rain). After 2 weeks go to the corner of the lawn and gently lift the turf. If you can see little white dots those are the roots starting to form. Keep watering and checking the corner until the turf wout lift, then its rooted and you can stop watering. Dont cut it until its rooted then use a 'high cut'. I only ever use a high cut on my 2 lawns and cut more frequently.

That's the front done

This Bosch verticutter sadly doesn't do a great job at scarifying as it keeps overheating. But it's done now.
Sarrel rolled as well. But too windy to seed now. Annoyingly.
Hopefully no wind tomorrow. Otherwise I'll mix with compost and spread out that way instead.

Two solid days gardening.
Yesterday two dry stone walls replacing a few plants lost over winter and closing the gaps. Absolutely stunning with the aubrieta and phlox out in full bloom.
Today repaired a complete lawn removing the dead moss that’s been treated.

Completely knackered now.
Sounds great, pics?

Just managed to get my front overseeded and scattered compost over the top. Bloody wind though, still saw some seed flying into the borders, so I'll be pulling grass out of those until the end of time then!

Verticut the back twice, then rolled with the spiker, then plonked the seed trays of Kentucky Bluegrass into the boreholes. Sadly, the grass had germinated and grown to about 5cm, but it was weedy and absolutely no roots. Clearly I've kept the soil too wet since day 1. So I think it will all die (most of it already looked half-dead from hardening-off over the last 3 days). So I've also chucked the KBG seed into the same areas.

Got my peas, carrots and spring onions in the raised borders yesterday too, after mixing in a chunk of my own compost with the existing soil. Fingers crossed for those.
Potted up the tomatoes into 10" pots, again though, hardly any roots for some reason - 1" in 6" deep pots - I've had expected to see roots coming out of the bottom by now, the plants are 18" tall. Might have to let them dry out a bit more between waterings?

I start my tomato seeds in seed trays, indoors, in an electric propgator. As soon as the first germinating seeds appear the tray is moved into a cold greenhouse and covered with a clear tray lid, as secondary protection/insulation. The rest of the seeds pop through shortly after the first. The seed tray never goes anywhere near a windowsil or porch because the tiny plants need as much light as possible, otherwise you get tall leggy plants with poor roots (searching for light). The seedlings dont get potted on until they have a really good stem, short, and the first pair of well established true leaves. I pot on into 3.5" pots, no bigger, and they stay in them until I transplant into their growing pot 15" diameter. Planting in 3.5" pots encourages the roots to look for space which isnt there so they develop a strong root ball, then transplanting into big pots encourages the roots to flourish in their new found room. I pot them in the contents of growbags,

That stone wall I dug all the stone out of the garden as it was buried when we moved in.
I planted all of those shrubs over 4 years.
It was basically bramble bushes before. Hard work but looks lovely now and it’s not as depressing as watching Swindon :)

Lovely that SoT. Looks amazing.

Gave mine a second cut last night. Still only on second highest for now. Mind I mostly done it as need to dry my awning out from camping at the weekend (pissed down Sunday night) and shorter grass dries out quicker.

Before and after.
3 years ago dug this out with a spade in one of the hottest days of the year.
Like building a terrace.
Planted up last year - in full bloom. Really enjoy landscaping the garden.

What mowers are we all using?

I had a g tech which packed up last year, not sure what to go for as a replacement.
I got an Einhell petrol as there’s more grass to cut at this house and I hate cables. Took a bit getting usd to it being self propelled but had it sorted by the time I’d finished wrecking the front grass!
